Mine were what I deemed as worn in 50k on normal springs but there still fine.
Shocks can leak though just down to the way they are. easy to tell they'll be covere in oil if they are or are starting to leak.
The metal clip is only on the new 1.2's the ECU on them is cooled by the intake plehbam at the back of the engine the metal protective cover on them wear though the wires causing the issue check yours.

just take the rear seats out and its no issue.

Ype i wrote a guide a while back it involves a few wires being swopped a new switch box possible never looked into it plus you need Renault to adjust the computer system.
Somehting realy wrong there subframe is bent you don't need to use cmaber bolts stock setup doens't need tit the garage who did then should be approcaed and asked why they did as it shows a very poor approach to fixing a problem.
I;d get the car up and check the subframe etc for damage plus...

Economy id down to driving and good build/spec.
Its easy enought to build the engine for high RPM jsut the cost the pistosn need changing realy plus roads might as wlel also the connecitng bolts then you have to think...
The car was damaged by the last owner who IMO knew the issue existed and sold it knowing the next onwer will have to pay to fix there abuse.
Being as you got to car cheap most likly and have no warently and are the second or more onwer no wonder Renault won't pay up should have had the car...
Personaly I'd only ever buy a car for some money if it had full dealership stamps a cheap banger then Ok fine. Depend how long you intend to keep the car.
Personaly I service my car myself as Im cheap.
I'd take it to Renault at leats they know what to look for.
