You'll have to prise the bottom of the column apart where it clamps on to the rack with a big screwdriver etc, they can be quite difficult to seperate.
1. Yes
2. Not really, post cat lambda cable is clipped to it thats about it off the top of my head.
3. ish.
4 main fixing points and 2 brace brackets at the back to remove.
2.0 TDi 140. They have an issue with the plastic oil pump chain guide/tensioner plenty of cases if you google. The repair kits replaces all the pump drive gear but sometimes you can't get the old sprocket off the crank so the engine is ends up useless anyway.

I have no recolection of what you are talking about :o. Still it wouldn't have been loose if the kit was any good in the first place hence crappy kit caused the leak ;).
Oh and I blame the low figure on a boost leak from ala crappy ktec hardpipe kit ;).

Not terribly difficult, hardest part is picking a point to drain the system. Dropping the return from the rack will get most of the old stuff out, then refill with fresh fluid and bleed.
Had something similar before, just get the seats, carpet, and foam out of the front and give it the big style hose treatment. You should hopefully be able to see where its coming in.
Last one was a block skuttle drain and it ran in through the heater and made a swimming pool under the seats but...
