The theory that it has too much power for 1st & 2nd could well be true as since re-fitting my original air box it has givin MUCH more torque in those 2 gears & it has been since then that the gearbox has REALLY started to p*ss me off.
It seems to be getting worse, doesnt like goin back in first after a hammering. :( Absoulutly fine untill u give it some; then itll jus be stiff as f*ck! Any help?

So its agreed; a standard 16v should be doin 16.7 & the Willy/VTS 16.1?

Well 4k will get u 1 of the best examples looking at Autotrader. U need to know how to tell if it needs a new clutch & gearbox as well, when u test drive 1. Good luck.
I think ud be lucky to get any good Valver for under 2k but the phase 2 is a little more refined however there isnt much difference.
White 16vs seem to go for less looking at Auto trader recently. Check all the buying guides and use ur comman sense, but it will be slim pickings at that money...
