Re: Im a massive tw*t. Urgent help needed please!!
I've got castrol in it now, bought halfords engine oil but after using it all in the car and then mixing it in with the old stuff, had to buy some more haha! Used castrol gearbox oil too, this to be precise...
Re: Im a massive tw*t. Urgent help needed please!!
I wouldn't have bothered personally until it was in a huge tub under the car mixed with some old engine oil and water left from washing the tub up!
Guess ill be able to tell soon if it feels any better/nicer changes!
Re: Im a massive tw*t. Urgent help needed please!!
"That's very golden? I thought it hadn't had an oil change in over a year?" was the first thing said ;) by both of us! then "Jesus that smells like a stink bomb"
I started the car with the old/oil mix quickly for a few seconds before I thought oh! So it should have filled the filter with old and new oil? Its a brand new filter so not planning on changing it or is it really worth it for about a seconds worth of oil filtered through it?
Thanks :)
Thanks :) Don't feel too stupid right now but I did feel a right fool when I did it! Live and learn I guess, if anything i've kind of had fun sorting it out. At least now I know where the sump is and all about that, I also have more experience using my axle stands and trolley jack, I know how to...
Drained all the engine oil, got 4 litres of fresh oil and filled up 3.5 litres, its now on the min line, going to leave it to settle overnight, run the engine for a few min (after gearbox oil) and then add a bit until it gets closer to the max line.
Someone who's never ever been underneath a car before who gets told to undo a 8mm square sump plug, and then under the car sees the most obvious 8mm square sump plug ever in a specially cut out hole? Is it not also a question of "What kind of idiot puts a gearbox drain plug in a special hole and...
Ah I was using a smaller bit of hose than that! Some from the fish tank, didn't think of putting the cut in the end of the hose. Thanks for that! Ill have to come back and have another go in the morning now really, just out of interest how often is a gearbox change even meant to be done?
Re: Im a massive tw*t. Urgent help needed please!!
Tried using a hose it just took literally hours and didn't really go into the hole? Isn't there just an easy quick way to fill it back up again? Giving up for now and getting a lift home but seriously annoyed at myself :/ Can't seem to get the...
Running to halfords now, what oil and how much? Anyone?
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_222101_langId_-1_categoryId_255220
Going to use this oil I think? Its recommended from my reg plate. Any idea on quantity?
I started the engine once for about 20 seconds with the gearbox oil totally drained, no weird noises or anything just said to on the oil filter when you check for leaks, yeah hopefully you guys are laughing then at least somethings come from this! Not going to run it again, but now taken off the...
Basically im at my dads which is very far from home for me and I need to get home tonight, and I know eurocarparts and other shops close in a short while!
We thought we'd be clever and try draining the engine oil, well we went under the car and undid the "sump plug" which was the one through...
Found it interesting the AA rung me for customer feedback about an issue my car had a while ago and I asked and the woman said "as long as you have made an attempt at mending the puncture it's fine, whether you carry a spare or tyreweld both are acceptable for us"
Wow this thread was popular haha :) Okay ill leave the spare on, was just an idea really, may have a go at taking it off and putting it on again though just to see how much of a nightmare the weird ratchet holder design is! Might also just carry some tyreweld as well for ease of use in a hurry...
Set of 4 Mahonia alloys 15"? Minimal curbing but some, and four good brand tyres with 6mm+ tread on each. Spare steel wheel with 185/60/15 tyre brand new continental with the full tread.
Set of 4 canasta 16" alloys with good tyres 5mm+ tread on each tyre, no spare.
Any ideas on prices? Both...
Think theres a sensor and something in the ECU/UHC? Someone else might have more info than me but remember reading a thread about it on here. Basic opinion was it isn't worth doing unless they're on the car from new.
Just wondering, how many of you carry a spare wheel or do you carry something else like tyreweld instead?
I have a mk3 1.2 so the wheels mounted under the car under the boot, but giving alot of consideration into taking it off the car as
A) Everyone online says the wheels near impossible to...
Whats the best way to apply Meguiars tyre endurance gel? Got some for Christmas and doesn't seem to last very long for me! Used a kitchen scouring sponge (the softer back side not the scourer) and applied to the tyre rubbing it in, then left it to dry and a few hours before driving. Just didn't...
Mk3 1.2, I get around 33-35 it floats around there and mainly small country road driving or driving into town occasionally. Rarely A Roads and almost never motorway journeys.
