What's going on with your bumper in some of the moving shots??? I know it's pretty flimsy, but why is it bowing outwards? I would go as far as to say that it could be classed as a moving aerodynamic device!!!! haha
Totally agree with this. Our car is still standard 172 ph2 (apart from the modification to the subframe we made and polycarb side windows); still on standard power with 15 inch wheels, standard brake setup with uprated pads, standard transmission, off the shelf coilovers and a very much standard...
What is the best brand of cambelt to buy and where is the best place to get it from?? I've found a Contitech one for 30 quid on carpartsforless.co.uk, but not sure if it's the best one to get....
This engine has had a right good pounding to be fair. We've done about 5 trackdays and 3 races with it.... and it was bloody hot on saturday at Castle Combe, that wouldn't have helped either.
Are these the only option for one piece valves...
If you've managed to watch the video from the tintops race... you'll see that we had to retire. This is why:
We're still not totally sure what the catalyst for the failure was; the symptoms were that we had pretty high coolant temp, but nothing boiled off. We also had good oil pressure and...
I've not done a race report yet... but here's the whole race video edit. Unfortunately we were forced in to retirement on lap 17 when the engine let go! Bit of a shame really, we were on for a decent finish!
There's been some graphics and colour additions since this shot, but it's not that much different now.
Can see our stripped out custom dash too, got rid of all that heavy plastic dash, just leave the topper.
We run the dunlops like Tony... but have opted for the 195/55 R15 because they're cheaper than both the 195/50s and the 205/50s. We get a set of 4 fitted for 360 quid! They're definitely the best tyre in the dry, the toyo's are too soft really, hence why they're reasonably decent on damp or cold...
...University! No, not really, just google it. There's plenty of online resources that go in to varying depths around the topic.
And thanks for the interest, hopefully see you at a race some time.
We're trying to keep the mods down for a while now and just get some seat time. We'll be at Donington and then hopefully Oulton too, but we saw that Pembrey thing and are a bit tempted!
June '13 Update
Despite saying to myself that I would endeavour to do more, smaller updates, another month has passed and we have a number of activities to talk about.
During the driver change of the Brands Hatch race we couldn't get the car going, so we had to bump start it.... Our...
James,
The car is looking pretty decent, glad to see it back together and running..... but how on earth have you spent 14k on it just rebuilding it??? That seems like a lot of paint. Have you even got any money left to race it now? We've not upped the power just yet, but we're below that figure...
Yehh, the bias was probably a teeny bit rearward, but that's easy to fix. Rob was pretty lucky to miss barriers and get the car going again!
P.s I've done one of your wishbones, should have the other one finished in the next few days. What do you wanna do about painting them? I can slap some...
Brands Hatch 6th May 2013 - Race Report
Rob:
Having previously had quite a good outing at Cadwell Park with almost no catastrophic failures, we felt confident that we were in good shape for the race at Brands Hatch. In the leading weeks, we’ve had our newest gearbox rebuilt, a few structural...
Micro update:
We are counting down the hours now until our first race of the season at Brands Hatch.... All the minor issues found at Cadwell have been sorted and the car has been fully prepped and checked over. The lovely decals from n2grafix are on the car too, so we certainly look the part...
Cadwell Park - April '13
After a few weeks of fiddling with the car, we managed to arrange a little day trip to Cadwell Park for a trackday. This time round, it was just the 3 of us along with Dave’s Dad, Reg. The 2 previous times Reg had been in the car, something had broken, so he had...
We've not been particularly good at keeping the blog up to date recently, but we have been busy!!
Here's a little video from our time at Cadwell last week:
I've been fortunate enough to recently gain a Go Pro3... which is noticeably better for sound than the 2, which I had been borrowing previously from a friend. I would say though, the open back makes a good difference whichever one you have because of the obvious lack of wind inside the car. The...
Pete.... I assume you have the GoPro 2. If so, you should really get a Skeleton housing, far easier than getting spare batteries and having to swap them all the time.

We've just wired in a simple USB socket and plugged straight in to the...
Here's the problem (Standard Ph2 172), now and again the throttle wil cut out (no response from the pedal) whilst driving and the engine will continue to run. The problem is nine times out of ten remedied by cycling the ignition on and off. Has anyone else experienced anything similar??
