Where did you get that impression?? Many of the theories behind disc patterns and direction are very much theories and not always backed up by much science at all. One thing that is clear is that the inner vanes are more important to cooling. AP racing have a bit of a fitting guide on their...
March 2nd 2013:
The Chase Racing guide to developing a space saver wheel for a Renault Sport Clio:
Take one Renault steel wheel, place over rear hub and carefully cut a perfect circle. (Chase Racing cannot be held responsible for any personal injury caused from emulating what you can see in...
Can't remember the name, Rob sorted that out.... don't think it was drivelink though.
Don't worry, we'll be looking at it regularly to check no cracks are forming, all part of the development process!!
We've heard about this series and it does sound reasonably interesting. At this stage, and with there being 3 of us, we will be sticking to TinTops as it's much easier to rotate and each still get a good share of the driving. When we have a bit more flexibility and cash, we might see what it's...
You're on the ball Kenny.... yeh, Ryan welded the uprights and we used a fairly thick plate section. It seems to have welded pretty well, we'll keep a close eye on it through testing.
We recognise that the aluminium hanger is probably now the weakest point... we have a spare one of them too...
February 28th 2013
Well, it really has been quite a while since we last did an update, so here it comes.
Over Christmas, we had a bit of time to assess all the things we’ve done so far and where we are heading. After many discussions about money, we realised we need to take better control...
James, make sure you're comparing apples with apples..... I would be very surprised if your total car is 100 kg heavier than other clios of similar spec. We made sure we weighed it with full fluids (Base Curb Mass as it's formally known), so make sure the car is representative, fill it to the...
I like that it what we have done to the car has caused this debate....it's interesting to hear people's stand point on what is a reasonable level of modification. We want to try out what the car and ourselves are capable of and we enjoy pushing the envelope a little. If these modifications do...
Thanks mate, I think we're still quite hoping that these mods pay off and we see some distinct changes in the characteristic of the car. Yes, everyone is right in that it isn't bad in the first place, but not much harm in trying these things. It hasn't cost us a whole lot really, way less than a...
Overall, the mods we've made have been detrimental because the car simply isn't fully operational at the moment. But if you narrow down to the problems vs mods, you'll see that all of the chassis mods we've made (subframe, ARB drop links, bump steer correction & caster), were actually quite...
Well, we made it there but it wasn't a hugely successful day for the race car. We did a dozen or so laps before the driveshaft popped out and stayed out, despite our vein attempts to keep it in. We then threw the brakes and tyres on my road car and played around with that for the afternoon...
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/one-born-what-happened-next/4od
I've just seen the Donington race on the One Born program!! If you got to 35 mins on the main video on that link, you'll see it all. The guy on the program was one of the drivers in the 77 Pug 205. There's even footage of Ryan's...

It’s been quite a while since an update, so I guess it’s time for one! The last outing for us was back in September when we partook in our first race at Donington Park. After the race, we wanted to draw some conclusions on the characteristics of the car and start to plan out...
Another JLR employee.....!! How many people are joining this company?!?!
I've worked a little on this project, did some brakes testing on some prototypes and have done some weights analysis on it too. It's a lovely car, pretty quick too. Acceleration is pretty effortless as it has sooo much...
Yet again, after much discussion, we don't all agree on yellow! Can someone do us a favour and try out green?? We're thinking a green very close to the wheels on this evo - http://www.darksideengineering.com/images/upload/takata1.jpg
Nice work guys, much appreciated. I've got another more up to date pic of the car, with the numbers on too. Could we see the yellow vs white on this one? Perhaps colour those brake ducts and the bullets again too....
So, we are disputing colour scheme for the race car. The simple matter comes down to wheel colour choice. We currently have 3 sets of wheels we are going to paint all in one go, the question is whether they will be yellow or white! So, can someone with better computer tekkers than me, take this...
Joe,
I've not long (3 years) finished my automotive engineering degree.... and now run a Clio 172 race car! If you're looking to do this for your project, you need to allow yourself some scope to go beyond just making another air box. As martin has pointed out, the options are pretty minimal...
So, we have been investigating the choices with regards to limited slip differentials in the race car. We have been pondering the question of what is better for us when it comes to track use. Will a helical one be better than a multi-plate one?? The two products we're looking at so far are...
Just had a chance to have a quick read and flick through your videos Pete, looking good.
You absolutely nailed that second start, you can see it on our video too. Ryan suffered a massive case of clutch slip on that second start, had to stick it in 2nd quite early...another job for our list. It...
We still have the manual adjust on the rack as well.... so Rob could've lowered the wheel to bring it closer to him. We are yet to get proficient at doing that in the pit stop, we'll work it in to the next event I expect. It gets reasonably tricky trying to fit all 3 of us in to the same seat...
Thanks guys, still chuffed with the result. Especially considering what we found out about the handling afterwards.... we'd wound off the dampers in order to do something at the rear, then didn't wind it back on afterwards. So the rear was well under damped, causing it to scoot around a fair...
We have a set of OZ F1s and a set of speedline 2118s.... both decent wheels, can't complain. I think the 2118s are more solid, but that's because we have cup racer spec versions. The weight of the 15 inch wheel and tyre is not much different to the 16 equivelants, but the important thing is that...
