I only went with AST as I was getting adjustable suspension from them at the time as part of a group buy. They were £140 at the time. Powerstation fitted the lot, but from what I hear, it's not a difficult job.
I'm not surprised, it's meant to be a fair bit stiffer. Most miles is these cars will be done on the road though, so it's all about compromise and whether you could live with the ride.
Tread depth, compound, pattern, etc. Any number of ways really.
The regulations governing tyres will probably be updated - ECE Regulation 30, 30.01, 30.02 or 54 or of EC Directive 92/23.

A rear Safety Devices rear cage would be four point, no? I believe Mark Fish may have one in stock? Not the cheapest option, but the cage is a good one.
