They've got nowhere near the practicality of a 172, but they are great machines. The handling is known to be lively and can bite an inexperienced (or experienced come to think of it) driver. Evo rate them highly and a specialist such as Mark Fish Motorsport can tweak things to make it more...
A kind passenger broke the grab handle on my 182. It looks like a simple fix as it's only the spring that's become detached - stoping it returning to it's normal position. Re-fitting the spring while the handle is still attached to the roof lining seems like a difficult job, so I thought I'd...
All I can tell you is that the headlight plastic is incredibly strong and around 5-6mm thick - there is very little chance of you damaging it. Attack it properly, but try not to scratch it.
Using forged pistons to increase the compression ratio slightly to 11.8:1 will there be an increased risk of detonation without doing anything else to the engine or management?
I used spacers for one fitting attempt, but wasn't overly impressed with the set up, especially as I was planning to take the wheels on and off regularly. Does anyone know what other cars these wheels will fit (for when I sell)?
I bought some Rota Slipstreams a while ago and was planning on using them as track wheels, the size was 16" x 7" with an offset of ET45 (to my knowledge the same as the standard Renault 182 wheels). They came with plastic spacers to fit snugly to the hub.
When fitted to the hubs (with spacers)...
I've been interested in the supercharger tuning route for a while, c£3,500 appears cheap. The Rotrex unit alone from the states works out at around £1,250. There was a guy on Renaultsport.co.uk that posted the following:
Me:
I saw on a previous thread that you have a supercharged 172, is that...
Does anyone know if the clear front plastic section of the headlight unit can be removed without causing damage? It looks like it's been glued/bonded to the casing using some type of silicon sealant.
I will probably go down in flames for this, but the MG ZR's (including 160's) didn't hold value well and can be had for £4,000. ZS's too can be had for good money - depends if you want a hatch or not.
Full throttle is before the click. I wouldn't have thought it could be a linkage issue on a 182 - the throttle's by wire, no cable involved. The mat does sit very close to the end of the pedal, they can also stop you getting full travel.
I've had PF97's on mine before, my brake disks were worn out in about 5000 miles, but that did include trackdays and the pads were only half worn. They really stop the car well (best brakes I've used) and work from cold well enough. They do squeal, but not as much as the 1177's I'm using now...
At full travel on the accelerator pedal there is a defined click that can be used to overide the cruise control or speed limiter. It shouldn't stick down though! As said above it's more than likely the mat causing it to stick - check it as it's happened to me.
Modifying a car doesn't mean it has to be unreliable. I've seen older Fiesta's converted to rwd and running cosworth engines - leave the engine relatively standard and gain a load more power. I had a 4.2 V8 stuck into my old 2.8 Capri, ended up as a very rapid machine and much more reliable than...
Modified cars can be one hell of a load of fun. I'd never buy one that's been modified by a previous owner, but I'd be happy to splash out and change a few bits myself - even if it's not the best way to spend money. I wouldn't say that you can pigeon hole people into either enthusiast or not...
Had mine replaced under warrenty after 17,000 miles, was very worried at the time as it sounded like my old Vauxhall XE lump when it ran out of oil (pierced oil filter) i.e. like it was gonna blow up. Still ran fine though.
I'm not a self proclaimed car expert, but before you spend your hard earned at least get a mate to look at the car from the outside when you spin the wheels to see if the wheels 'hop'. It will be easy to see if they do.
Got an answer on this from the experts:
Inferno asked 182 wheel hop?
Under hard acceleration that culmanates in the front wheels loosing traction in wet conditions (electronic aids on or off) it has been noticed by a number of owners that there is significant driven wheel vibration - possibly...
It's wheel hop/axel tramp - whatever you want to call it.
Look here...
