If the pressure builds up more than the other breather can handle then the tank will expand and contract, this causes material fatigue what leads to fracturing and cracks.
If your that bothered just fit a one way valve to it so if pressure builds up it will vent to atmosphere but won't let...
Probably worth sticking an engine flush through it before you drop the oil out if its not been serviced in a while.
Ive got one engine on 66k that was very clean inside when i opened it up had the oil changed every 6-8k, the other one at 85k was black inside due to burning oil and poor maintenance.
Latest update:
Took sump off broken engine and found the remains of something...
I fit some nimbus heat shield to the bulk head after removing the carpet and also heat wrapped a 182 manifold to go on.
and the best bit was these pictures from ALD
By slipping/controlling the clutch and keeping the throttle constant at a highish rpm until clutch is out then floor it.
Or choose a lower rpm and not drop but fairly heavily bring the clutch out and floor it.
My standard 172 ran 165bhp at evotune. Someone of the other guys with rs tuner map, exhaust and air filter were seeing over 170
When are you going to evotune might have a pop up if I'm free.
This.
The he grab handles are easy to remove, just screw the torx out most of the way leave a little thread in. Push the bolt in and pull the handle out. Pain the get back in though. If I take mine out it's getting blanks back in, or covering over the holes.
Took can pulleys off and sump off, cleaned out oil strainer, engine is on 66k yet the mesh was covered in white and black silicone?
Replaced the dip stick holder as it was snapped off. Removed exhaust manifold so I can heat wrap it tomorrow.
Depending on work/moving house I want boost. The engine would have to come out again anyway for forging so getting a clutch right now is no really worry, just buying it now would bring future cost down.
After owning my 172 for several months now I may as well start a build thread.
Bought the car from Trev at DTM cars mid last year. Soon as the car came up I thought great, a trust worth garage, its in my budget, reasonable mileage and once I took it out for a test drive, I HAD to have it. Felt...
Hi guys.
As some of you may know my engine let go a couple of weeks ago. I already had a spare engine I was building to go in if mine let go. I didn't expect it to go so soon though. I'm building my spare engine at the minute with almost everything being replaced on it. I've got for supertech...
I don't know how much the original tank weighs, but I could see a 10-20lt tank being lighter than a 50lt tank. Might have to ask some of the other track day boys.
Does anyone know the best place to order sinus or supertech valves from that isn't Ktec's prices. Preferably with a short delivery time.
I would rather like to put some in my engine before it goes back together but not at the cost of £400!
Thanks
James
I've ordered rack bushes a week ago from Kam racing, still haven't received my email saying they have been sent so I assume they haven't got stock of any yet.
