Had a couple of clios at my place where the customer had the same problem, always seemed to be after cambelt jobs at a nearby dealership.....both of them had the dog one mounts refitted upside down. It tilts the engine back ever so slightly and makes the manifold hit the arb.
Bit strange the 172 isn't included, there would be more 172's entered than trophy and 182 cup. Means fuller grids and possibly a reserve list.
Are you sure these cars can't be catered for? Say a class structure within a 'single make' series.
Normally the wiring loom just outside the under bonnet fuse box goes green internally, look for small wires that have 'grown' internally.
thats if the immob light isn't coming on etc....

It's more than likely the tdc sensor and loom that is needed, genuine items fitted correctly.
Its unlikely the injection computer will go wrong from standing for 4 weeks.
Chip, you using the bolts with a cammed offset, and some of the material removed to get the adjustment? If so... Do you really want to go hooning into a corner with less bolt material holding it all together....? you could always file away the top mounting bolt hole in the shock as mentioned...
