Definitive answer to 172 vs. 172 Cup /182 castor difference?

I wasn't able to find a reason for this on the web so the only way to do it would be to get a cup and a 172 ph2 next to each other and measure various parts. I have to say that I did edge towards the idea that the ph2 172 has the higher amount of castor and it's another of those situations where...

172 new top mount / modified spacer issues

Just to finish this off - I've just purchased 2 off M14x1.5 half nuts (7mm thickness) and 2 off M14 washers (2.5mm thickness) from a local fastners place for a massive £1.10 the lot. The washer and half nut are an equivalent thickness to the old style top mount top cup and 3mm anti-creak washer...

172 new top mount / modified spacer issues

A quick comparison between the original top mount and using an M14 half nut & washer or an M14 full nut. According to the standard sizes, the nut and washer will be slightly lower.

FINALLY - Top mount modified part from Renault!

The pictures show the old style. The difference is in the top cup and spacer Old = integrated nut and a boss on the base & spacer and separate nut (17mm hex). New = separate nut and flat base to the top cup & new 'modified spacer' integrated spacer and nut design. The modified spacers only...

FINALLY - Top mount modified part from Renault!

I've just tried to fit these spacers and have encountered some issues with them, so I decided to look into what was going on. Here's a link to the thread - http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?641094-172-new-top-mount-modified-spacer-issues&p=8688984#post8688984 My investigation lead...

172 new top mount / modified spacer issues

Right, had some time to look into this today and decided to draw it all up, so I could see what was going on behind the scenes. I found that in 2 areas, the design of the modified spacer could lead to issues, as it interacts with something other than the top mount bearing, which it should be...

172 new top mount / modified spacer issues

Given this a little thought today and I think that I've got a very cost effective solution. Just need to measure an old style spacer and check that a few dimension are the same as the new one and that they don't bind on the new top mounts. If they are then using the old spacer and a full M14x...

Just got lowering springs and have been scared out of fitting them... advice please?

Re: Just got lowering springs and have been scared out of fitting them... advice plea Most proper spring manufacturers make the springs the correct free length to stop this from happening. In general, you get a dual rate spring, where there are some close wound coils and then some further...

    182 Cup Springs on 172

Just managed to get the new setup on the car (172 Cup front, 182 Cup rear) and all seems pretty good. The car is more pointy than on the Eibach springs and has a little more ride compliance as well as better control over lumps and bumps. For a scrapyard tuning effort, it was worth the time and...

172 new top mount / modified spacer issues

Just fitted some new top mounts to my 172 ph2 and used the modified spacer from Renault. The parts that came off the car were all original and Renault and the shocks were too. When I took the car for a test drive, there was a horrendous clunk from one side. A bit of investigation later and it...

Definitive answer to 172 vs. 172 Cup /182 castor difference?

I've been giving this some thought and applying some logic (always dangerous). Anyway, the front suspension is a simple MacPherson strut and so the number of components are few and the positioning limited, as I must make the assumption that the shells are the same and thus the upper mounting...

Definitive answer to 172 vs. 172 Cup /182 castor difference?

I've been searching and searching on this subject but there seems to be a lot of ideas but I've not seen a definitive answer as to which component(s) give the increased castor on the 172 cup (and 182s) vs. the normal 172. Some suggest the hubs, others say they're identical (the 182 and 182 cup...

    172 & 182 Stock Geometry Settings

Hi, here's the details that are given in the .pdf for the rear suspension. I have used 'in' and 'out' as that's what's written but it also says minus for all values and I'm not sure whay I've missed those off (it was getting late). Anyway, here's the information I was using, if it's wrong then...

    182 Cup Springs on 172

Cheers, glad it's of some use. I'll have some of that information soon, as I've got a set of 182 Cup springs on their way. I might contact Eibach and Apex to see if I can get information on them - they've given me information on springs for a 318is that I used to own so fingers crossed, as and...

    172 & 182 Stock Geometry Settings

Hi all, I'm looking for the stock camber, castor & toe angles settings for Ph1 & 2 172 / 172 Cup / 182 / 182 Cup / Trophy to see what differences there are (or aren't). I've searched on here but haven't found what I'm after just yet. Does anyone have access to this information and wouldn't mind...

RS Tuner license cost and OE calibration availability

Yes, it's 65 euros at present (95 euros - 40 euros discount for Clio 2). Just emailed them about the OE calibration, so see what costs are involved. It's about £40-50 to have the ECU de-mapped locally, so if it's £60 but I can re-map it at a later date, then that's a good plan in my eyes.

    ARB Diameters 172 / 182 / Cup

Many thanks for that information :) Some further research indicated that the rear bars might not removable, so it seems that it's a moot point but good to know though. Seems that the Whiteline is the only way forwards... Might have to research insurance implications.

    182 Cup Springs on 172

Interested if the 182 Cup springs will fit a 172. Have done some research and found that the struts off the 182 Cup won't fit but I'm hoping to get some 172 cup dampers. The other option is 172 cup springs. I haven't found spring length and rate information for each Clio type - is this info on...

    Gearbox end cover & bolts

To answer my own question. The bolts are about 20mm long but the thread on them is only about 15mm. New bolts fitted with a little threadlock and done up nice and tight. Funnily enough, whe I went to fill up the gearbox, it still had oil spilling out the fill plug, so must have been a little...
