Hiya Rhys, Ive just joined the club and own an MK1 RSI and I live in Woodseats(Norton) in Sheffield. Sweet motor you got there. Are you going to anything like the GTI International at York or any RWYB events over the summer? I quite fancy seeing the power difference between the cars, I know youll blitz me but its all good fun

Hiya, I know Woodseats well. Used to live opposite the Big Tree and my ex still lives on Woodseats Road.

Think Im going to go to York on the 26th and the one in July and I might go down to the French Car Show (25th May?).

Never raced an RSi before, so yeah, im up for a blast. Down Chesterfield bypass maybe? No speed cameras yet .

PM me and well arrange something. Tonight or tomorrow would be okay (trapped in work at the moment).

Getting the same feeling. De-catted the car again and it really shifts and sounds great, but the badly fitted exhaust system is banging against the underside of the car and pissing me off so much.

Im depressed too. :-(


Going to have to fork out more money to get someone to take the system off and put it back on again, not to mention sorting the scratch on the boot out.

Ditto mate, my system is now gently rattling the heait shield with the occasional bang as the idle jumps a few rpm....REALLY REALLY annoying!!!!

And i cant be arsed to get under the car! lol

I get the heat shield rattles too . Such a shame as the engine sounds brilliant (once its warmed up and stopped pretending to be a tractor). There seems to be a shield that goes right round the downpipe which looks like its missing a nut and bolt. Maybe this is the guilty culprit for my rattle.

Me and BenR were talking about this!

Mine rattled. When I put my CAT back on. I walloped the heat shield about a bit and tightened all the bolts. And she dont rattle anymore. It was that rattling!!

Was it a constant rattle or a buzz @ certain revs?

nope, mines quiet at anythig above idle.

Any idea what would cause a buzz around 2.7k revs? Sounds like the 4k rattle on a 172. Does it with either cat and decat on.

maybe its the centre baffle gone, mine did that.

Like I said before, the exhaust system has been badly fitted. Its standard, but the garage I got the car from and changed the backbox before I picked it up. Its not been right since I got it. Will try sorting it myself, feck it up and pay twice as much as I would have had to do before to get someone to put it right. Sounds like a plan.

lol....jsut get under and hit the centre baffle, if it makes a rattle, its yer baffle.

If not, jsut shake the whole exhaust and see where it rattles on the chassis.

Wow, thats some response for a Msg for one Bloke!

Anyhoo, Im still in Newcastle but Im coming down today, so may well meet up with you if you like . My car is only running on 14 inch OZ polaris and its lowered on spax suspension kit and its red.

As soon as I can find an office job in Sheffield Ill get a Stage 1 Hill Power conversion but unfortunately my cars power will be limited.

I cant go to the French Car show, but the York days, Im well up for, give us a post or email and we can start a little convoy up if you like.

The chesterfield bypass sounds great, thats the fastest Ive been in the Clio 110mph but what a road to do it on

Rhys when I have finished my exams and got some time bring it round to mine mate. We can scratch our heads together then hehe.

Itll be something stupid like a heatshield I bet. LOads of cars get that. I had one on the cat on my old car that did it cos a spot weld went so i ripped the fukker off and that fixed it! hehe.

I got a few tools and axle stands and stuff so we could get it in the air and have a better look mate.

I used to own a 93 RSi a couple of years ago (before the 172) - it was a pretty decent mover and I was quite happy with it until I blew it up on the way to look at the 172! Oops...

You might be better off selling the RSi and investing in a 16v if you want more power - that way you wont get crucified on the insurance for modifying your motor. Just a thought thats all.
