    172cup to 182cup

Personally, I wouldnt do a swap like that at a price of £5k to change. Its a lot of money to pay for a different colour, ABS and some very marginal improvements, considering that at 7k miles your 172 Cup is hardly run in.

182 - The car for me

I drive my other halfs bum-basic 1.2 a lot and would say that youd get a good idea about the dashboard and controls from a non-Renaultsport Clio. The Dynamique (sporty trim) models are near identical to the 182 Cup interior in that they share seats etc. The brakes on the basic models are...

such thing as a green 182

It was called Paddock Green (briefly). It was a £1000+ option, like the yellow and the so-called Petrol Blue is now. I was on the verge of ordering a 182 a few months ago in that colour, before I realised that I could find a mint 172 for half the price.

Sounds like youve got yourself a lovely example there. Enjoy it!

    1.2s badged as 2.0 16v

Ha ha! Just been out for a spin in my newly-badged "1.2" 172 (badges from other halfs car). It attracted sooo much more attention! Probably because its now a sporty-looking "low power" car. Must have really confused the Honda Prelude and Alfa 156 2.5 drivers I came across! I had a...

    f*cking supermarkets

Sorry to hear about that - but Tesco has no responsibility for the way its customers use their trolleys in the car park. There will be big signs saying "cars parked at owners risk". Best thing to do is to cycle/bus to work if you can (miles cheaper), or park as far from everyone as you can.

    How HOT is your Clio

^^^ Thats "Nordic Green" - a colour available on non-Renaultsport Clios from March 2004 on. My mums 1.2 Dynamique is that colour. Its a lovely colour - looks black most of the time, but goes a greeny/blue in the sun (we got the salesman to put his Nordic display car next to another black one...

    1.2s badged as 2.0 16v

Im sorely tempted to take off the "1.2" badges from my other halfs Authentique and put them on my 172 - should make for an interesting drive.;) Dont want to go putting the "2.0 16V" badges on hers though!

    flat spot

I get a flat spot from about 2,000 to 3,000rpm when the engine is cold. Funny thing is that it only seems to happen in the afternoon, when Im leaving work. Doesnt happen any other time! I wonder if its because I run an open induction kit and its surrounded by latent hot air after...

    Williams 2 , how much

Youll have to wait for the right person who appreciates Williams to come along, so its hard to judge. From experience Id say that it would be worth considerably more than one with average mileage - as long as the condition of the car was commensurate with the mileage. Personally, Id pay...

    V6 and my GF

My other half was driving me in her 1.2 the other day when we came behind a brand new V6 in Iliad Blue. I pointed out how it was the car I wanted next, to which she said it was gross and a boy racer car. Mind you, when she drives my 172 she says its "too stiff" and she really doesnt like...

    Air Filter or Induction Kit

Really, you should only go for an open induction kit for the noise in my experience of having them on all four of my past Clios. Open IKs (like K&N, Green etc) suck in any air that surrounds them - at speed this may be cool, but especially at lower speeds and in the summer itll be hot air (not...

    megane coupe

The Ph1 2.0 16V Coupe was 150bhp (essentially same engine as Williams) and the 8V was 115bhp IIRC. The Ph2 2.0 16V was 140bhp and not generally as highly regarded as the F7R lump in the 16V Ph1.

    Won a Clio

My other half and I have her 1.2 Authentique (bottom of Mk2 Ph2 range) and my 172 between us. While she will occasionally drive my car, she finds it too harsh and sensitive for her. If we need to have only one car between us, it wont be my 172!

    throttle bodies

Just to avoid confusion, a standard Spyder uses the F7R engine (i.e. Willy/Megane Coupe), not the F4R.

    172 Test Drive on Saturday...

From my experience as a lowish mileage 172 owner of the same age (and from having another Mk2 Clio in the house and my parents having one too!), Id say there are very few inherent problems to look for on a Mk2 of any kind. The presence of common niggles will depend a lot on whether the...

    Who would buy a v6

I agree with the sentiment and core message of 137699. Basically, its a slightly illogical lust decision. It was the same with me and the Williams: my teenage bedroom walls were covered with pics of the Escort Cosworth, Delta Integrale...and particularly the Williams. I was fortunate...

What looks the MEANEST ! 172/valver

Ive already posted that I think the Valver/Willy look meaner and agree that the 172/182 look similar to the rest of the range (although thats part of the appeal for some). That said, its because Renault now make "sport" models, which now look closer to the untrained eye to the real 172/182...

What looks the MEANEST ! 172/valver

No question - my old Valver looked meaner than my Ph2 172. The 172/182 is missing a bonnet bulge and flared rear arches - although the Valver doesnt have side skirts. The Mk2 Clio also has "sporty" models like the Dynamique that look like the 172/182, whereas the Mk1 didnt have ones that...

    Lots of people selling

The 172/182 are far bigger sellers than the 16V/Williams ever were. Not sure of the sales figures though. People who would never have bought a hot hatch in the day of the 16V/Willy are now lapping up hot Clios from what I can see. There are a couple of car supermarkets in south Wales and its...

    0-60 AND 0-100 TIMES

I dont think its worth it really - there would be such minimal difference given the same conditions and driver. Theyre all under 19 secs to the ton.

182 Cup or Civic type R

Neither is conclusively faster than each other (not like a 182 and Cooper S for instance), but I think the appeal of both is quite different. From a driving point of view, I see the CTR as the urban dual carriageway dueller - and the Clio as the car to take for long drives on your favourite...

banging in 1st and 2nd gear

Sounds like the engine mounts to me, allowing the engine to rock back and forth? I think that its a well documented "feature" of the 172/182, certainly in 1st gear.
