Silly question, but have you re-set the trip computer?
As the mileage since the last re-set increases, short-term MPG fluctuations have less of an impact on the overall average (which is what the computer shows).
I hate the idea that VW advertising has propogated: i.e. that the Golf GTi was the original hot hatch. BULLLSHEET!! Look at the Renault 5 Gordini for example, or Lotus Sunbeam (Talbot).
In innovation, as in most other areas, the French rule the hot hatch roost.
Renault in particular...
Renault 19 16V alloys are 15" - the Ph1 wheels are unique to the 19, but the Ph2 versions are the same as the Ph2 Clio 16V ones. These Speedline Vega wheels were also used on the Megane Coupe/Cabriolet Ph1.
Megane Coupe Ph2 wheels are 16".
Do you think that 0-60 is the best measure of how "quick" a car is?
Renault lumps are notoriously mileage-sensitive, which explains why a lot of 16Vs, Williams and Ph1 172s get quicker performance stats than they should given the standard claims. I for one have always seen Williams make...
Autocar test figures for Clio 16V (1992):
0-60: 7.4 secs
30-70 though gears: 7.1 secs
Top speed: 127mph
These figures are within range of most modern hot hatches, even after the passing of more than a decade. If this is all that concerns you, then I hope youre satisfied. Theres lots...
The whirring is the ambient temperature sensor in the central console above your head (above the mirror).
I have an 02 172 in Monaco Blue, which Ive recently bought. I "downgraded" back to a hot Clio after a big turbo car and am loving it.
I bought a Ph2 172 just over 2 months ago. I try to buy and sell my cars via owners forums and the 172 was a great buy - I paid £7,800 for one on 19k with a history I can trust.
Id say that £7k is the bottom of the price range for a Ph2 - you will find one, but it may not be the best out...
My other half has a 1.2 8v Authentique and I drive that a fair bit. I even drove it on a 200-mile A road trip and was pretty impressed with the comfort, brakes and damping.
The Dynamique models in particular are much closer to a 172/182 than the MK1 non-sporting models ever were to the 16V...
Renault have a dedicated Renaultsport factory at Dieppe, so they wont want to have this facility redundant.
After the Clio 16V and Williams were stopped, IIRC they turned their attentions to the Megane Coupe and Spider at Dieppe.
Since there are no other new deceent-volume Renaultsport...
Ive let the 172s trip computer average over a couple of months to give it a more realistic figure. After 700 miles its reading 34.2mpg (mix of gentle and occasionally "spirited" driving). The car is on 21k miles.
I noticed that in the Mk1 Clios the fuel gauge stuck at full for ages, then...
You should have a look into Renaults rich history of making hot hatches my friend. There are many illustrious cars in the bloodline like the 5 GT Turbo (including wide-arch ones) and the Clio Williams.
If you really could afford it, then why not?
Youll already know in your heart if you want one - its not going to be a logical decision you arrive at.
As long as its not utter rollocks, Id have any car as mad as that.
Unless the car has been scratched by dirt or has faded, youll only need to use a polish very occasionally. I just top my car up with a coat of Extra Gloss Protection every week or two and alternate it with a natural carnuba-based one like Meiguars stage 3.
For a really good finish, use the...
It should definitely have had an oil change at the very least. The recommended service interval is 12,000 miles or 2 years.
I dont think any noticeable harm will have been done, but for future reference oil degrades over time as well as with use.
Id not worry about the low use or lack of...
Should be in the service history book inside the front page.
If not, try bashing on a slightly smaller socket (long one). Willy wheels are very difficult to remove wheelnuts by force without damaging the wheels because the wheelnut wells are so deep.
I never fit locking wheel nuts -...
I had a similar problem with my Williams.
If the key had four "spikes" on it, then it would have been a Renault dealer set of locking nuts. I managed to get a new key by finding the old bill from my history folder - and amazingly Renault had a key for about £3.
By the way, my renewal with Admiral (same company as Elephant) is over £700 with 5 years NCB.
Just tried Privilege and its coming out as £550 with my other half as a named driver - makes no difference whether its my mum or not.
People will pay over and above what trader guides say for a mint example. I sold my stunner Clio Williams No.123 with 63k on the clock for over £5k last summer.
Definitely sell for upwards of £4k - because you can get it.
If I was in the market for a Williams, yours is just the kind Id be...
