Im not impressed with the power that Renault are extracting from 3 litres in what is supposed to be a super car. BMW managed to get more out of their M3 3.0 almost ten years ago, and they are getting over 100hp per litre now in the 3.2 and have been for 7 years!
Apologies to all you guys who were waiting for the file. I hadnt looked at this thread in a while and sent it out to those of you who PMed me but didnt see the other posts.
As you can see the stuff exists but we still dont have all the answers. I expect my ctalogues to arrive this week...
damianshaker,
The M3 comes in several varieties, none of which is a 2.8. The E30 originals were 2.3 with 600 2.5 Sport Evolutions built and the E36 ame in 3.0 and 3.2 versions. In not sure of the displacement of the current E46 but it is at least 3.2.
The 172 is a close match for the...
The Ecotek is a con. Nothing more. There is no way it works. If it worked every F! car would sport a bank of them. Or the FIA would ban them, one or the other.
It is just a vacuum leak jazzed up!
Come on guys! Use your heads!
Chad,
On a circuit or stage even tiny differences in weight add up. You would be surprised at the difference. I speak from experience here. Removing the AC or PS makes a big fdifference.
I never said anything about it making more power. Where did you get that idea? I said that it...

I dont want any of the luxuries. By lightening the car it is the same as giving more power. Even more because the braking and sornering are improved as well. I know that it is a seemingly tiny...
Maybe some or the "tuning" lads should take a closer look at those cars. aybe notice the size of the exhaust pipes for instance, and the lack of wings etc. Those cars are pure function. Beautiful at that!
I want one. But wouldnt turn down a S1600 though...
Jimblive,
If you were doing 140, he certainly wouldnt have left you like you were standing still. The Merc is limited to 155 or so. Gets there in a hurry just the same!
Same sh*te here. I went in to get an estimate for the cambelt change on my Willy. No problem about €500. Then I asked a friend who is a mechanic how much he would do the job for. He said €500, So I figured best get it done at Renault. How much...€1,000. I would have had it done two months...
My question remains: Is that the Alpine operation? It looks like a relatively small plant and somewhat outdated as well...
As far as I know they are the ones who build the rally cars. It would make sense that they build the Cup cars as well. Do they build the 172s as well?
If so, the 172...
With the 968 CS Porsche hadnt quite got their act together. They actually charged less for it, just like Renault with the Cup!
Now they do charge more to strip a car out!
The CS had the same power output as the regular 968. It did without soem of the goodies but you could custom order most anything. The point is that Porsche had to offer a cheaper version to meet the competition, and at the same time created a better performing car.
Once the Cup and the 172...
dogmaul,
The main difference in the 968CS is that it had less of the goodies standard. It was a marketing move to sell the 968 against lower cost competition. It is a better car on the track as a result of the slimming.
I am not comparing the Cup with the S1600. Merely stating that if...
Did they check the Cat? Ask them because a duff plug can cause the cat to become damaged from overheating as it burns up the unused fuel from the dead cylinder. If they replaced the plug, they might just replace a damaged cat but if you let it go too long youll be buying the next one.
Did...
There is no denying that the Cup is a more sporting car. The difference might be miniscule, but given drivers of equal ability, the Cup would be a good way ahead after a few laps of most any track. A few kilos makes a big difference when you are accelerating, braking and cornering.
And if...
Will,
Nothing has been done to the gearbox in 180,000km. The owner before me replaced a clutch though. Its in for a cambelt change now. I just hope they dont find too much wrong with it.
The dampers are original as well!

I have a Willy right now, but if I were to sell it today I would go for the Cup/Ragnotti.
I would then fit some racing seats. That is about all I would do to it.
The seats are crap in the Cup because they are meant to be taken out.
Ten years from now what car do you think will be worth...
I wouldnt mess with it much. Maybe an Ecu that allows a bit more revs for those awkward moments. Clutch should be OK without the wimp conversion. The car is quite competent as is.

Never raced my Willy. Won one in a VW GTi though. Lost a bunch more. Never won with my M3 or my RT4. Not a great record. But I can assure you they were real races.
Well Ive finally opened the Excel file from Dieppe. Trouble is it didnt have much information about the kits and various parts. Pain in the arse. I ordered the parts catalogues for both the Clio RS Ragnotti and the Williams.
Maybe then Ill be able to shed a little more light on the subject...
