The car is currently on a private plate, which is why I cant have it for a wee while. Ill be putting it back on the original plate though and its not an exciting one Im afraid.
The VTS/106 GTi engine apparently came with 130bhp+ at the fly rather than the official 120bhp for a certain period of time.
Ive got no idea of how or why, but I do remember there being a standard VTS at a RR day I attended recently that made 125bhp ATW (my old 16V made 128bhp ATW). Theres...
The only thing that slightly bothers me about my new Willy is that the oil pressure gauge goes straight to 0 bar once the engine gets to 60degC. I wouldnt expect that even at 160degC!!
Since the car is only on 54k, I doubt its the oil seals - so maybe its the sensor unit? The oil pressure...
I drove a couple of 106 GTis when I was considering what to replace my old 16V with and I wasnt very impressed. Granted, the two I tried may not have been the fabled 130bhp variants, but both were disappointing even in the powerband and they were no way as compliant or accurate as the 16V was...
Cheers Pete - the Williams was really quite different to drive than my old 16V. I didnt get to really take it above 4000rpm (busy London), but it had bags more torque at lower revs and the handling felt really different too (more solid).
Cheers guys! The wheels arent that bad but Ill be getting the wheels done as soon as I can work out how to get the wheels to a refurbishing place - maybe I could leave the car with them? I left my 16V on bricks for a few weeks when I had its wheels done, but that was a real hassle and the car...
My search for a mint Williams ended today in north London! The deposit has been paid and Williams No.123 will be coming back to Wales with me on Friday. Ive looked at about 15 cars: the overpriced, the rusty and the downright dodgy!
The car has 54k on the clock and the current owner only...
Im getting a bit depressed after what seems like an aeon searching for a decent Williams :( What makes it worse is that Im out of the house from 7am to 8pm during weekdays and I live in Wales - theres not a single Williams for sale here!
Would the good folk who own a Williams post a photo or...
Im in Wales, near Cardiff - CF64. None for sale locally and the closest is 85 miles away. I was speaking to a bloke with a promising-sounding example in Cheshire, but he decided to keep it in the end. Most of the others have been sold by the time I call or sound like dogs.
Im guessing the...
It wasnt just the alarm on that particular car - it wasnt wearing its 47k miles well at all (rocker cover was peeling, sunroof was falling apart and too many rattles to name a few problems!). I sold my Valver on 105k and although it was hard work, it was a proper minter.
Unfortunately...
Oh man :(
Just had a whole day going to see cars and they were all mingers... well, they were all 106 GTis! Definitely not into them at all - way off Valver pace even in the power band and crap brakes too. I had been led to believe that they were just as good as a Valver, but I find the...
Ive been Valver-less for three days now and Im missing it very badly! Ive got about £7k sat in the bank at the moment and am itching for a new car (my Volvo S40 is not exactly providing the same thrills as the Valver did).
The original idea was to get a mint Williams - but just you try...
£3999 is well over the odds. Maybe a year or two ago, but thats 35% of the original price of the car nearly ten years later - Mundaneos struggle to make that at three years!
Sadly, a totally mint car can barely be worth over £3000. Most change hands now in the £2000 to £3000 bracket.
Oh you mean THAT one. Of course not! The car will self-destruct tomorrow morning.
Raj - Im not too fussed on a Williams 1 as theyre Phase1 cars and I much prefer Phase2. Equally, Id prefer not to have a sunroof or ABS as that kind of spolis the idea of a rally homologation special, wich...
134mph is the official top speed.
Its those idiots at Evo that give it 120mph; have you also noticed that the 5 GT Turbo apparently weighs 990kg and in one issue they had the Williams weight as something like 1150kg!! Not exactly spot on!
Im sitting tight with the money now and waiting to pounce on the first really good one I see. Ive got my Volvo S40 for daily use, although its the sort of car that totally lacks that petrol-pumping through the viens, induction howl in the ears feeling that the Valver gave.
Just watched as my Valver disappeared into the distance in the hands of its new owner - bjfosteruk. God it looked and sounded good. Damn.
Never mind, that feeling pales into insignificance compared to the stress of today. The idea was to meet at 5pm after work, but then the starter motor...
Hi mate
Heres a few more pics, showing amongst other things that theres a new coolant tank! Have recent receipts for everything else mentioned here so far too.
