Im from Cardiff and have a Valver! Give me a toot if you see me around - standard-looking ;) L-reg black 16v Phase2 with leather.
Im in Bristol at the moment but will be working in the Bridgend/Vale/Neath area in September.
Ive got exams for the next two weeks, but will be organising a...
Tiger - the 16v is practically the same car as the Willy! Main differences are the gbox (different ratio for 5th), 1998cc bottom end, clutch, starter motor, shocks/springs, front suspension lower arm, interior trim, wheels and colours!
The Willy is basically the same as the 16v... maybe do a topic search?
And have a look at this (which I wrote for the 16v buyer):
Id print this off if I were you!
Read the 1994 Cars & Car Conversions article on the Williams on the main Cliosport site (under articles!). That outlines...
The cheapest (and best IMHO) way of doing up a base car is to chuck all the bits from higher spec/later models.
You may like aftermarket wheels for example, but the 16v ones cant fail to look good and are cheaper...same goes for spoliers, exterior and interior.
Quite cheap if youre...
I had 15s and 16s on my non-wide arch Clio Mk1 - the 15s handled and fitted better. The 16s rubbed like crazy and the handling (not to be confused with grip) was not as good.
Get a Valver - I doubt that youll get much else that does 7s to 60 at Group12 insurance! Or looks as good!
But if not, then try a Punto GT, GT Turbo, 205 1.9 GTi or Golf Mk2 GTi 16v...
Thing is, all old hatches need a bit of care. Do your homework and then take your pick.
Ive got leather - Id say well under 10% of Valvers have it and it seems to be more popular on Phase 2 models. You would be lucky to find the 16v in the colour of your choice with leather. I wanted leather a lot, so plumped for a Pearlescent Black Phase 2, rather than the Xerus Grey I really...
Yeah, you can get a Valver for under £2k but they will tend to be fairly scruffy at that sort of price. Even if you could stretch to £2.5k then it would put you in the bidding for Valvers advertised at £3k. Most people that bought 16vs that cheap on here have bought them as trackday...
Ive always been pretty keen on keeping my cars clean, and none more so than my pearlescent black 16v. Ive been reading some of the stuff on here recently about polishing/waxing and have visited http://www.autopia.orgwww.autopia.org for some very sound advice.
Its pretty clear that my...
Did this yesterday - piece of cake.
You need to take off the bottom of the steering shround to get to two of the nuts that hold the main dials in place. Then take off the top of the dash, revealing two more screws on top of the dials unit. Once youve done these, pull the dials away from...
Only the earlier Phase1 Megane Coupe/Convertible used the 15" Speedline Vega (19/Clio 16v Phase2) wheels. The later Clio 16vs and Meganes used darker silver centre caps, which should be available from your dealer at £25 each in plastic (originals were metal).
N, P and early R-plate Meganes...
Autocar did a track test of most current hot hatches - the Leon Cupra R was slower around the track than a bog standard Mondeo 2.0 (as were all the VAG Group products). Not impressed.
Seriously - can you take the bus a bit more? Use your bike??
If you sell it, you will lose a lot of dosh on it and you will miss it. A lot. My mate has a 16v and got so broke by it that he put it in his garage for a year and cycled to work every day! He might not have solved the problems...
I still use my IK as I only use the car for leisure and live in a fairly cool part of the world (coastal wales). So in my typical driving I never encounter the sort of environments where an IK is a burden. Moreover, the location of my additional fuel regulator means that the airbox I had...
I reached this point a few months after buying my 16v. Just remember that youre on top of it now (well, almost) and that theres practically nowt else to go wrong from here on. A year and a half later I have been able to just enjoy my 16v without major problems.
And it would be a bit...
Have you checked the condition of the rocker cover gasket? Its the gasket between the top of the cylinder head and rocker cover (sorry if you already know that) - another tell-tale sign will be oil in the spark plug wells if this is so.
Other than that, heavy oil consumption can be due to...
