Does anyone have any impartial experience of these cars?? Just been out on a good dual carriageway in Bristol and came up against all three.
The TT had the twin tailpipes and correct badges, and we were absolutely neck and neck from about 20mph to *20mph (on empty long straights). At about...
The garage that did an oil change on my 16v told me that they had to move the radiator to get at the filter...but I laugh in the face of death - and so decided to have a go myself the next time.
Amazingly, it was as easy as pie. Took me ten minutes (including oil draining time). And my...
It has its imperfections, but it one of the very few cars at the moment that would keep rather than sell if I was given one for free.
Thats how I decide which cars I like or not!!
Well if you were 3 up in a Valver and keeping with it then the ST must have been slow - extra weight is the biggest performance killer with a Valver..no torque until 4500rpm and all that!
I guess so, but it doesnt matter so much when Ive got the other mods. I tried to put an airbox on, but the location of the fuel pressure regulator obscures it. I cant find anywhere else for it to go without disconnecting the PBV and then having to have it set up on the RR again!
Isnt it amazing the way that we could all make claims about how great the brakes or interiors of our cars were - but as soon as someone mentions power/speed it all becomes heated! I know speed is very important, especially psychologically, but it isnt the only thing that makes a good car.
I...
Beware that each RR will give different readings on different days. Its best to RR your car against a number of other 172s at the same place on the same day.
Maybe it was a more worthy Civic with a 1.4 badge on it??
Ive been known to dig out the 1.2 badges from my old 1.2 Clio and stick them on my tuned 16v :devilish: Priceless!
Yeah, I think they were silver SL wheels. The car had some audio company graphics on it, but I cant remember what they were.
The full story was that I flashed him to say "nice car" as I went round a corner, so he followed and he even went through a red light to catch up to the red light I...
Good point about experiencing other cars - I was in the passenger seat of BenRs 16v the other day and it reminded me of how fast it really is! Ypur senses numb over time with the same car.
Hope its ready for the meet on Sunday mate!
I had a black 1.2 16v Dynamique pull up next to me at some lights on Saturday - had a massive install, big wheels and dual exhaust. Anyone you know?
He went for it when the lights changed, but my car was really slow that day so decided not to...
If you press down the accelerator in a 16v/Willy without the engine on, you can feel that it meets resistance half way through the travel of the pedal towards the floor. Its at this point in a Valver/Willy that you hear the really loud induction whistle if you have an induction kit fitted...
Ahhh...I see! For some reason I thought you were older than that and since you (plural) are always talking in great detail about how other cars are like to drive, I did wonder!
I had my 1.2 until I was 21, but always had the use of my dads 3.0 Volvo 960. It was by no means a cool car but...
Hey rich daddy 1.2 boys! (with no offence intended).:D
How come youre driving a 1.2 (as good as they are) instead of something like a Cup?? My mates dad collects Porsches (!) and gave my mate loads of nice cars like a Honda CRX (nice back in the day), VW Golf GTi etc until he crashed them...
I know its no consolation, but theres a long history of Renault hot hatches with mixed performance.
On the one had there are Clio 16vs like Aarons and BenJs that are pushing out way more power than they should as standard (with over 100k on the clock!) - and then you hear about 16vs that...
That always happens to me too - nothing to worry about. In the real world of roundabouts, corners and junctions, 0-60 and top speed dont mean as much as they do in a straight line and cars become closer in performance as driver skill plays a more important role.
Id be surprised if many 172s...
Going back through the service history, my 16v had loads of problems within the first 20k miles (including new lambda sensor, brake discs, catalyst and various niggly bits). But, apart from entirely reasonable mechanical wear and tear, the random problems seemed to stop there - and the car has...
