I would do the top mount bearings at least. I would leave the wheel bearings until they go - but take care to have them both replaced at the same time.
Any help gratefully received!
1. My car seems to handle very strangely at the moment. The tracking has just been done, the tyres are new and the tyre pressures are all fine - but it seems to wander all over the place in no particular pattern and really cant brake in a straight line. This...
I have had exactly the same experience over the past few days.
Was sat at some lights, with my roof rack and bike on top. The lanes merged ahead. Up comes a 320 S-Class in the lane for turning right only and starts lurching forward on the clutch.
So I decided to spoil his antics by...
There have been loads of times when Ive seen a good race go to waste because my girlfriend is in the passenger seat.
If I go over 4000rpm, my girlfriend practically burts into tears...which is a bit of a problem when driving a 16v. You can see why having a female as a named driver sometimes...
If youd had a standing start together then it would have been a different story. The 325 wont really get going until its moving due to inertia, whereas a 16v will pull cleanly from off the mark.
The 325 will have had the advantage from a rolling start, so I wouldnt worry too much. Its very...
The old 9-3 (up to 2002) was just the same car as the later 900 that had the Vauxhall Calibra genes.
Contrary to popular myth, the 9-5 is based on the old 9000 - not the Omega!
Rob - Im no Clio V6 expert, but the Phase2 is making an extra 25bhp and has a few chassis tweeks to hone the handling. Doesnt seem that far from the original design brief to me.
Ill reserve judgement until Ive driven both!
In truth, the Phase1 V6 had a lot to live up to and was bound to...
A lot of people tune Saabs becuase the majority have always been turbos (in fact all Saabs since 1997 are turbos). They seem to attract the more mature tuner who doesnt like the in-your-face image of something like an M5.
Mind you, most are unfeasibly rapid even without tuning. My mate had...
De-badging is the way to go.
The good thing about the 16v is that it looks so different from the rest of the Mk1 range that you dont need any badges. It only has "16v" on the side and "Renault" and "Clio" on the back.
Ive blacked out the "16v" on my side strips, which I dont think...
My 16v takes for ever to even register the tiniest bit of oil temperature on the gauge. I stay below 3,000rpm until it gets to about 80degC, which takes at least 20 minutes unless I start near a fast road. The temperature never seems to rise until I get to over 40-50mph.
Id always beware at the wheels power figures. I bet if that car went to some rolling roads, with identical climatic conditions, it would be down on power and up on power at other rolling roads. RRs are not like tape measures - theyre not standardised.
Ive probably owned the least! Im 23 and have only had two cars:
Mk1 Clio 1.2 Phase2 M-reg 1995. My first car - had it from new. Modified it in later years. Faithful to the last. Sold it to someone who had major problems with it (probably due to his driving style).
Mk1 Clio 16v Phase2...
To be fair, the TD range have a bit more poke than the standard Golf petrol range...but thats not saying much. Most Mk4 Golfs with remotely sporty pretentions are totally and utterly outclassed as dynamic and performance propositions - and trade on their once innovative GTi heritage.
But as...
You would have to install a flywheel sensor - a feature that no 1.2 Energy engine Clio ever came with.
I looked into this when I had my old 1.2, without success.
No, people like me are jumping for joy! I reckon theyll drop fairly quickly to £10k, then stay there until they become a collectors item.
There are loads of factors like that being a trade price and the fact the Phase 2 V6 is about to come out.
