Problem was, I wasnt expecting it to have such a big bill (it was only in for an MOT) - so I decided to get some bloody value for money out of it and drive in my rage all the way to Southend-on-Sea for the Mahousive Cliosport meet (yes, from Edinburgh!). I forgot all about the matter of the 10...
Definitely keep the original springs/airbox if you plan to sell the car. People prefer standard cars in thw wider market.
Definitely keep hold of the airbox too - in five to ten years time when most people have bought a 172 with an IK and realise that the airbox is better in hot weather, you...

Yeah, I always make sure that I take my car to somewhere I trust - and Renault main dealers are not places that I trust. When I was in Edinburgh in the summer, I took it to the main dealer there. The mechanics obviously hadnt had a 16v for a while as it came back with ten more miles on the clock!
Yeah, just thought Id recommend it as its caught my eye recently. Ill not seriously be looking at any until the end of the summer, but then Ill need a second car thats cheap to buy and run so I dont end up commuting in my Valver.
The 1.9 TD in Volcane trim was the first ever diesel hot...
I used Colour Magic on the advice of the person I bought my car from - if it worked for him, then it surely would be good enough for me. After about half an hour it was clear that the stuff was sh!t and that it wasnt going to buff off properly.
I threw it straight in the bin and used my old...
Save up for a Valver - there are loads out there now at low cost. Just have an open wallet for the inevitable repairs.
Or...how about this as an outisde choice? Citroen ZX Volcane, available in TD or petrol trim from 90-155bhp - basically the same car as the Pug 306 but now sadly...
I always use the higher octane petrol, although not just because the 16v handbook says to use 95 or 97ron fuel. Higher octane/"Super"/Optimax is always better quality and has more additives.
If I go to great lengths to maintain my car, clean it religiously and am generally very...
Any local exhaust specialist. It will cost under £10 to have it done - my local Kwik-Fit did it for free. Youll have some come-back if they dont get it right too.
Im doing a Masters too! I reckon that I could have easily afforded a 172 by now, providing it needed nothing more than servicing. My tuned Valver cost £5k and has since swallowed another £6k!
Ha ha! If my car was off the road and I got destroyed by a Valver, Id want to go home and fix my car right there and then! At least you know what you mlook like when you boot it to victory.
I hear that the F7P 16v manifold is better than the F7P Willy/Magane one as it creates more low down torque (obviously much needed on the 16v!).
Ask Lofty, Mat Brown etc.
Really?? I love the Avatime and would have had it as a company car in the right job. Its one of the only truly original looking cars out there. They are truly whacky in the flesh. Ill be looking for a second-hand bargain if theyre that unpopular!
There isnt that much difference in a striaght line, despite what the man in the pub would have you believe (depending on whether you got a Monday morning or Friday afternoon Valver), although the 16v will always be more difficult to extract the full potential - e.g. imagine you get out of that...
LPO - low power output? :D
I think it is hard to do - it depends on whether your torsion bar bolts are seized after all them years and how successful you are in fabricating tool to draw them out.
Yes, it will fit. Its a very popular conversion - loads of people on here have done it. You can run it with the 16v gbox (many people do), although someone else will fill you in on this Im sure. You will probably need a new chip as well.
