I get a bit cheesed off that every article must have the word Teutonic in it.
I dont buy magazines regularly any more. CCC and PGTi often have one small interesting article, but nowt else to keep you engaged. Practical Classics has to be the best Ive come across so far.
Yeah, was just about to add that the 2.5 V6 was developed while the Cavalier was still in production and a few later models did have it fitted. It wasnt their performance flagship or anything though - I think it made just over 160bhp.
Ive colour-coded over the "16v" on the side strips of my car - so now all the warning people get is the bonnet bulge and massive arches/bumpers (which should be enough really!).
Thats the Clio Maxi - still the fastest FWD rally car to date and holding many tarmac stage records. The car was homologated from the Clio 16v, and then when they took full advantage of the Group A 2.0 engine size limit, the homologated car was the Williams.
That was in the days when FWD...
When the VTR/S duo first came out, they were respected as a pair of fine warm/hot hatches with capabilities far beyond what their image and price tag suggeted. They still are.
Citroen UKs PR destroyed their cred with the inception of the West Coast and other Saxos that benefited from the...
Dont want to drag up the whole Saxo VTS/106 GTi thing again, but those cars will massacre a standard 1.6 16v and are more than snapping at the heels of the 172. Makes no sense until you see one beating or keeping up with most Valvers/Willys/172s.
BenR - yeah Bristol has loads and loads of 172s. I see them parked up in Redland/Clifton (must be company cars).
But I hardly see any 16vs and Willys. Ive seen about 8 16vs and 3 Willys in the Bristol/Bath area - which is a big area population-wise.
The Willy is obviously the rarest...
Im always comfortable blasting along twisty roads that are uphill, but if theyre downhill, I hate going quick as I never feel in control of the back end of the car.
The best mod Ive ever done to my car is picking up some tatty Phase 2 wheels and having them refurbed. The original look is in! Alloys can really lift a car, but when was the last time you saw a car with a set of old aftermarket alloys that look any good?
I passed a Porsche 944 on the mway a couple of weeks ago. As soon as he noticed me, he gave chase. I floored it in 4th and was impressed that I was holding it off. But as soon as I slipped it into 5th at *15mph it was game over and he shot off to some ludicrous speed. I later passed it as it...
This is plagarised from the Clio 16v tuning guide on the main site:
The first item on most modders checklist is the air filter. On a Clio 16v, as on most cars, the actual filter is inside an airbox. The airbox is attached to the inlet manifold via the throttle body, and when you press the...
Try to find a local Renault specialist. There are loads of ex-Renault mechanics out there who have started up independently. Where abouts are you situated?
Neither. Its a price increase in oil as the oil markets are going a bit crazy with all the talk of war. Theres nowt oil coming out of Iraq in global terms, but if the Saudis get scared and cut production...
Its all hyopthetical, but traders buy future supplies of oil. If they think that the...
The heat shield cost me £42.12 in VAT, part no. 7700817534. Get one as it protects your power steering and brake pipes. If you get a new one and give the engine a bit of a clean, it will look like new under there.
