Yeah, Craggy is just some random guy who comes on here and kicks up a fuss with his abrasive style - isnt he Ryan? I mean hes only posted about 1800 times.:o
If you want more than the pace of the ST170, save yourself up to £6k and get a Clio Cup, VTS or 106 GTi. All are tried and tested favourites with hot hatch fans and are lighter on the wallet. I like the idea of a hot Focus, but Im afraid that Ive yet to see a positive review of the ST170...
The 1.6 8v Delta HF Turbo has 140bhp and 141lb/ft as standard. It weighs just over 1300kg and has enough poke to see off 0-60 in 7.6secs and top whack of 123mph. Works out as something under 110bhp/per ton.
Definitely 172 fodder...in standard form.
I understand that on the F7P/R engines, the inlet manifold is particularly restrictive. You could have it ported - and the exhaust manifold too. Or maybe a K-tec exhaust manifold would suit? See their website: http://www.k-tecracing.comwww.k-tecracing.com
Youll have to get BenR on the case here I think, but Im pretty sure youll need a custom chip depending on what spec you have the head and especially cams done to. What about the manifolds? Going to do them too?
If youre going to say, source Piper cams and pulleys and have the head done on a send-away and return basis, then have it all fitted - then thats the expensive route. You might as well find somewhere that can do the original head and cams to your spec - I reckon itll be cheaper.
On my way back from Halfords to pick a few bits and bobs today in Bristol, I saw a black 106 GTi in my mirrors bombing up behind me. He went to overtake me on the dual carriageway, but slowed up real quick as soon as he saw my car. It was the bloke who had sold me my 16v, about 18 months ago...

Although Ive never done it since, out of curiousity I found mine was 135mph according to the clock (probably about 125-130mph: book is 127mph).
When Ive got a roof rack on, top speed reads 110mph!
Erm...the Golf GTi - the original hot hatch?! Guess whos been watching a few too many VW adverts!
What about the Renault Dauphine Gordini (1961), Mini Cooper (1961), Sunbeam Imp Sport (1966), Renault 5 Gordini (1975) and many, many other "hot hatches" prior to the 1977 UK introduction of the...

The VTR/S look best when theyre just lowered a tad and left standard. Theyll never look as good as a 16v/Willy, but hey - you have to compromise sometimes!

...I mean a really good one on a really good road.
Found myslef in mid Wales today - the roads are ace! The highlight was the A465 between Hay-on-Wye and Abergavenny: billiard table smooth new tarmac and proper switchbacks. Scenery to match too - snow on the hills and no surface water...

Its fine once its warm - no problems at all. However, it does usually happen after the car has cooled down, then been started again (like use it in the morning, turn it off, then use it again later).
The reason they called the Nova the Corsa abroad was becuase in Spain/Italy/France "No Va" means "No go" - which is a very apt description of this blokes Nova GTE Turbo 4WD with LED lights that add 467bhp now that its sat in 6-foot of water!
