    Astra GSi 2.0i 16v turbo

Any company can put a powerful engine in a car, just like any old fool can drive fast. Theres a vast distance between simply doing that and stumbling on greatness... A manufacturer that consistently turns out qulaity hot hatches gets respect: 5 Gordini, 5 Gordini Turbo, Turbo, Turbo 2, 5...

    Little Theefing B*******

:( Can you find a lock-up locally? Might be worth it if you look at it this way: £30 per month = £360 a year for a lock up...but how much will a break-in cost you?

    Which element for 16v airbox

It didnt really effect me this summer becuase I was in bonny cold Scotland this summer, but when I ventured south (e.g. to Southend meet) I noticed that the performance of the car seemed a bit blunted because of the warmth! I intend to keep the IK on for the greater part for the reasons you...

    Alloys & lowering

Mines lowered 35mm at the front and about 20mm at the back. Ive been down the low-as-fegg route before - and on a car that has such good handling as the 16v or Willy, you dont want to mess that up by lowering too much...

    quick power gains

Like lots of bits, the ARB on the 16v and the Willy is the same. Anyway, take a big turd and lose the spare wheel!

    Astra GSi 2.0i 16v turbo

If its a Mk3 (i.e. old shape to 1997), then there was no standard GSi 2.0 16v turbo available. I would imagine that it would be an engine conversion from the from the 200bhp Cavalier or Calibra turbos. The Mk3 Astra GSi had the familiar red-top 150bhp 2.0 16v under the bonnet, though later...

    cam belt change

DO NOT LEAVE IT!!! Its a mega bill if it breaks in service...like one of the most expensive bills you can get with a 16v/Williams. Inlet and exhaust valves (which youll probably destroy if the belt snaps) cost £300, before VAT, before labour, alone.

    Alloys & lowering

15s are probably the optimum wheel size for the Mk1 non-wide arch (i.e. not 16v/Williams) Clio. I fitted 15s and 16s on my old 1.2 and the 15s were easily the best - slight rubbing, but it was lowered to the floor. 16s meant major rubbing, poor handling (not to be confused with grip) and poo...

top speed out of your valver

Well, Ive got a 16v with a moded head, inlet and exhaust manifolds, Vernier pulleys, cams and a PBV - as well as an IK and exhaust. And Im certain it wont go much faster than 130 on the clock!

    *** Induction Kit + Insurance *** HELP **

Not worth it. Its a really tiny modification, but its an excuse for your insurance company to invalidate your policy or charge a higher premium. Some insurers are flexible (Adrian Flux?), but others only deal with standard cars full stop - so Id ring them up and ask "if I put an IK on, will...

top speed out of your valver

The aerodynamics of the 16v in particular are not great. The Mk1 16v is basically a brick with bigger arches and a bonnet bulge that sucks air in. I find that I can get to 120 with great ease, but the rate of acceleration tails off massively after that - i.e. it seem just as happy to...

    Which element for 16v airbox

Just secured Nick Reads old airbox, so Im hoping to put the whole induction versus airbox on a 16v/Willy to bed. The only thing is that I need a new element to go inside it - so which one is best? I think Im going to have it on for the forthcoming Midlands rolling road day in February. But...

    Buying a Williams 3

What I mean by the tail end of things going wrong is this: By about 80k, youll find that most long-term perishable items such as the clutch, cambelt, brake discs, CVs, engine mounts and so on will have been replaced on a well cared-for Williams or 16v. If youre lucky (the previous owner...
