Hello all
Lofty: its going to Cousins on Hampton Road. I used to live two doors down and would see them at work almost every day! I used to watch one wreck of a car after another come out of there looking as perfect as can be, so its a good place - not the cheapest though. :( I had some...

Mat Browns car is quite exceptional. I really havent seen another car like it - apart from mine!
This should help you in your quest for a 91-96 Clio 16-Valve:
The cars are fairly maintenace-intensive, but, as ever, the care it has received thus far will usually dictate condition. Look for...

Careful with bargaining - they might just cut out that extra layer of laquer or something else that will mean itll peel off in a years time! Been there, done that!

The Clio 16v is 38mm lower at the back and 30mm at the front lower than the standard Clio anyway. Thats a lot lower by modern standards!
Phil - youll get problems if you lower a normal Clio a lot, but youve got fat arches so its all OK man!!!:D
AFAIK, you can lower it as much as itll go on...
Just to re-cap: some bugly builders dropped loads of crap all over my car, making loads of small dents all over. Well, Ive just spent this week chatting to body shops and sprayers to find the best people in Bristol to do my car - and the result is that my 16v will be going in next week and...

Nine out of the top ten most stolen cars in the UK are...wait for it...
Vauhalls!!
The new-shape Clio is the car released in 1997/8. Facelifted in 2001 (heavily, admittedly), but still the same car. Same story with the Phase 1, 2 and 3 Clio 1991-98.

I had multispoke 15s on my old 1.2, then 5-spoke 16s. Although the 16s werent much bigger, they looked a LOT bigger than the 15s. So I find that in fact that multispoke wheels make wheels look smaller - simple designs with spkes that go right to the rim look bigger.

The rolling radius of standard 16v/Williams wheels are greater than non-wide arch original Clios.
Many Clio 16v owners like myself and Mat Brown have 195/50/15s on our cars. The 16v originally came with 185/55/15 profile tyres.
It doesnt matter about the speedo issue - by the time youre...
I thought from what Ive read that it was late 2003/early 2004. Makes sense - current shape came in late 1997; Renault usually do 6-7 year cycles. Old Clio was in UK from early 1991 to late 1997: 6.5 years.

If its a near-side wheel bearing then it will go away when you steer to the near-side (left). Thats becuase the off-side wheel bearing takes the load during left-hand cornering. If that is the case and if it stays, or gets worse, during right-hand cornering, then its probably the near-side...
The other thing is that Renault will be replacing the Clio soon(ish) with a 3rd generation. There wont be a 172 equivalent on the market for a while - just like the 1996-1999 gap between the Clio 16v and 172. Opens up demand...
Vauxhall is after a slice of the big bhp hot-hatch market. Its been growing nicely for the past few years now, so there will be enough slack to swallow a fair few examples of this quite possibly deeply underwhelming car.
I very much doubt that it will gain a reputation as a must-have hot...
