This fella reckoned he had been running the car to London and back so I wouldn't expect condensation in the filler cap. Been to look at another 2 yesterday.
1 was meant to have full history and was already running when I turned up. Turned out didn't have any service history.
2nd which has...
What I might do is buy the release bearing and when I have a long weekend (unfortunately I need the car tomorrow) fit it and see if that solves it. That way I'm only out of pocket for the time it's taken me.
That's what I had initially thought and I hope your right as this is a cheaper option! However the noise goes away when I press down on the clutch pedal. My understanding is that if the release bearing was bad I'd hear the noise when I press the pedal, where as I hear the noise when the pedal is up.
I think this is my best option.
The sound like I say is really evident even when it's idling in neutral with the clutch engaged and when u blip the peddle. The screach it makes sounds like a slipping auxiliary belt ( it's not the belt as the sound is definitely coming from the box). I'm...
Thanks for having a look for me. I think as it only happens when cold I'll hold off until it makes the noise all the time. Either way it's going to need a clutch and gear box I'd it is the input shaft bearing
Not what I wanted to hear. I think dismantling a box may be slightly out of my league. There seems to be a lot of YouTube video's for Honda gearboxes but couldn't find any for renault
Ok I'm a little confused. I'm struggling to find where the input bearing should be on the gearbox.
I've attached a pic and can't see how or where I would have to get my hand in to get the bearing out. So do I need to open the box to get at it?
If any one could tell me where the input bearing...
No this one was knackered. White sludge in the cap, water bottle a lovely black colour and recently replaced with water. I drove the car for a bit pulled over took the oil cap off and was greeted by smoke. This one was dead
Bit of a update.
Been and looked at two potentials. Boy is this end of the market tough!
One had head gasket failure written all over it. Seller said its a great car I've had it 2 weeks.
Needless to say I walked away.
The other was slightly better but needed clutch, brakes, bushes all...
As above really. When driving and the car is in gear i get a whining noise which I have to be honest is pretty loud. After about a half hour the noise dispapears. It also dispappears when the clutch pedal is pressed. Any guesses as to what it is? clutch release bearing maybe?
Going to go and have a look at a 1.2 petrol clio on an 02 plate tomorrow for my son. The car is £500 and has 118,000 on the clock with some service history. Now I think £500 is a bit steep and ideally I want to pay around £350. Do u fellas think this is an attainable price? Any haggling...
Are the carrier bolts free? Mine had seized
on the driver side.
Your best bet will be to dismantle everything and checks it's all loose. I bet the caliper has seized up again
Discs fitted just need them to bed in
Finally got round to replacing my rear exhaust bracket. This was a pain in the arse as the captive nut inside the box section sheared off
Here's the little blighter!
So in went a m8 rivet nut. I have to say I love these!
And one if the hanger back...
Ha! I quite like this option. Only started pissing about with it to fit a poly bush in as it's shagged.
Should have known better than to start on a Sunday!
