As soon as I saw the car in the early morning sun I knew I was in for a long day. The paint on RS Clios is rock hard. Fortunatly those boys in Dieppe really go to town on the paint and readings of 150 microns are the norm with these cars.
I have detailed more clios than I care to remember...
Ok maybe not to everyones taste but I thought I'd show some pics!
Stage 1
This morning I spent a few hours on the bootlid as it was badly swirled and had buffer holograms but worse it had loads of RIDS (random isolated scratches). First up was to remove the number plate.
First up...
Bit of a mammoth session yesterday down at an independent Porsche specialist in Wiltshire - 11 hours, 32 foam pads (cleaned after each short pass with QD and an m/f cloth) of which half my collection (about 60) were used.
The car itself is about 14 years old around 1600 kg and 350 ish bhp...
Not great pics I'm afraid as light was low and my shots went all grainy!!!

Here Tom Used the PC and SSR1 to remove any hologramming from SSR2.5 via the rotary...
eltel21 has looked after this very well as no swirls appeared under the xennon lamp! That said it took a fair bit of claying and paint decontam!
A light polish/deep clean with the PC and poorboys SSR1 was all that was needed for a Zaino Z2pro ready finish.
Used QEW, Sonus Green and...

When trying to access some secure servers such as bank, sainsburys shopping etc my internet connection just hangs with the blue bar reaching about a 1/3 of the way and then stopping.
Tried disabling fire wall/deleting cookies, running virus scan, enabling pop ups but...
Renault took it upon themselves to pop Loony's car through their mechanical car wash during some warranty work.
I saw the car the previous day in direct sunlight and it looked good. One pass through the swirlomatic gave use these lovely lines.......
I was surprised how deep the...
Had a little trip to GDI today to detail the GDI clio, rather badly swirled to say the least!!
Paint after claying
The thickness was a good 150 microns all over which gave me plenty to play with. I compounded with SSR2.5 @2000rpm which cleared most swirls but left a few random...

First up how thin was the Nissan paint:doublesho :doublesho :doublesho
On average 100 microns but as low as 84 microns on some panels!!!!!
This was a new car and I suppose shows how well the Nissan robots can lay down thin layers of paint!!!!
Give these very low readings a light polish...
Have just done some clearcoat tests. The average thickness of the clearcoatcoated paint was 330 microns - remember this included primer basecoat and clearcoat. This is exceptionally thick, my 'new car' is 130 microns. The bonnet could have been resprayed at some point but it was very uniform...
PS ONLY FOLLOW THIS IF YOU WISH TO DESTROY YOUR PAINT!!!
The aim of today was to practice rotary use to destruction on a panel to see how much paint is removed by different processes.
First up we had a badly oxidised ford red bonnet that I picked up from the local scrappy. We taped...
