That's 4 hours labour at Renault, and approx 8 hours at an Indi, seem steep to me. If they're not split, you can fit a jubilee clip around them with unbolting anything.
Ian.
Sold my 1995 MR2 in April witihin a week, had loads of calls.
Bought a 58 plate albi 197 with cup pack and 43000 miles for £6k, it'd been on sale for several weeks.
Had my 3.2 V6 advertised for 3 weeks without a bite and it's cheap!
Market is wierd at the moment.
Ian.
I can't believe Renault say they've not heard of this problem (but then don't all manufacturers deny problems?).
It'd be interesting to know how many 197 owners have had this problem.
Ian.
From what I remember, you need to undo the hub nut, remove the disc and caliper and undo the 4 hub bolts with a female torx bit??
How do you change the bearing, is it pressed into the hub?
Still waiting for the offside swivel!
Ian.
Megane hub looks different, but I imagine the principle is the same, looks like they have a drive in, drive out repair, wonder what they'd charge to swap a swivel-they're around £20.
Can't get any temp insurance, my wife changed it to the 197 and they'd only cover the 182 for a month, I can't...
It's the bottom swivel, exactly the same as the thread you put up a link for.
They are £200 a side, but there're no right had ones in the country?? as they're not a common fault! The forums seem to differ to Renault's views!
I can't drive the car as it's stripped awaiting the new part, the left...
That's the one, it's pressed into an ally casting on the 197. You can buy a non genuine swivel and get it pressed in, but how safe that is i don't know!
Don't see what's wrong 2 bolts holding it in as with the 182!
The wife's now got a 58 plate 197 in Albi blue, but it failed the MOT on the bottom swivel.
It's a Renault only part (looks like it's made by Brembo) and is £200 per side, so I ordered one from my local dealer and was told it's out of stock, but will be in within 10 working days. Chased today...
£200 a side! Renault only part-looks like there's a Brembo stamp in the casting???
I'm going to make a tool to press out the old swivel and see if it's a worthwile changing them or not as they're only £20 each.
Ianboom.
Well, completed one side, waiting for the part for the other side, it's coming from France on the back of a donkey!!!
I was expecting the worst, but I did it on the drive on axle stands without any major problems, no special tools or levers and only one pair of hands!!
Worst part was getting...
Hi, I'm after some 197 sport torque settings if anybody can
help??
Removed my stub axles today, ordered replacements from renault,
one will be here friday, the other up to 15 working days!!
Anyway, I need
the settings for a 197;
4 star head scres that hold the wheel bearing to the stub...
Well, after a bit of investiahtion, apparently what I need are near and off side stub axles, also known as a swivel hub assy.
Renault are saying £200 a side. Renault say they've only ever sold one, but according to my searches it's quite common.
Anybody changed one of these?? Do I need any...
Hi
It's slightly orange peely, but there's lots of nibs in the laquer.
I did an apprenticeship at Land Rover in the 80's, and spent a few weeks in the paint shop, and that me a bit critical of paint on cars (anal more like!).
The 197 has little nibs on every panel, probably only 1 or 2, but i...

Cheers, found a web site so will email him and call him on Monday.
My friend at the garage who MOT's it says he can get the parts for £90 but he's looking to see if he needs any specialist tools for the job before he offers to do it. He also says you can buy just the ball joints for £18 each...
What's the quality of the paint like on your Clio??
Just bought the wife a 197, I know the front bumper has been sprayed (albi blue) but looked over the rest of the car and the paint quality is c**p and there's no way the whole car has been sprayed.
Our 182 is a little better, but my TT is...
The wife's 197 has just failed the MOT on worn bottom ball joints.
Spoke to Renault, and they want £750. :(
Can't get a quote from Ktec until Monday and they're 160 miles away.
ANy ideas?? Anyone else had to get these done??
Are these doable at home?
Cheers, Ian.
We went from a 200 to a 182!! (thieving gits stipped the 200 and the wife said sell it).
Prefer the 182 engine, seems a lot more torquey, but the clutch is too heavy. Handling is like a go kart. Cheap fun car. Poor build quality.
The 200 was new, so no rattles, seemed better built, but who...
Interesting thread.
If it makes you fell any better, I drive a 3.2 Audi TT (wife has the 182), and I have an erratic idle that comes and goes and occasionally thows up an engime management light, I've changed stat, temp sender, cleaned MAF and throttle body...time will tell if I've cured it...
Cheers, I sent 2 payments to 2 different people, would you mind PM'ing me your address please?
Was tempted to bring my TT for a couple of runs, but we're going away that Thursday :( thanks, Ian.
My mate Ash with the VR6 is interested if anyone drops out!
I'm after another set of wheels and track day tyres to put on the 182, they're 16", will steel or alloy 15" wheels be okay??
Cheers, Ian.
