Right,
Did a bit of work on the car last week, took the carbon splitter off the front, cut out the fog light holes to let more air at the brakes, sold my quikshift.....
Then Wednesday had my first track session in nearly a year at Cadwell Park
Car was so much better than I expected. The...
I replaced all the ball joints and bushes before Anglesey last year - I did them again this year because one had collapsed.
Done 3,000 miles but I guess the day at cadwell took it's toll on a cheap ball joint.
Well I had it setup on a hunter system and checked on a hunter system so i'm...
I guess mate - but my car wasn't exactly worn out, the bushes were all new before Anglesey, and the TRE's and the Bilsteins were brand new
Literally the only differences to this year are new inner TRE's, an extra -0.25 camber on front and -1 camber on rear and the KW V2's...
But like you say...
Yes I agree my tyres are w**k - but does that mean every other thing I've done to the car is wasted? No course not. They're just not working to potential because of the tyres.
It will get fixed - I just didn't want to spend £400 on tyres while it was being used as a daily driver and they were...
Yep - I was grinning my head off, had it turned mostly down on track and it was so lovely to use, but then went for a drive to skegness for fish and chips after the track session and whack it on full you might as well be driving a 1litre punto. It's awesome. Money well spent :D
It was a dog suspension wise? I spent £900 on bilsteins, eibach camber bolts, with powerflex bushes all round, brand new ball joints, etc... and it was a dog suspension wise?
Ironically I bought all that BECAUSE that was what people suggested, then I said it was a crap setup and wanted to swap...
You realise you're posting that on a thread where half a dozen or more people now have converted from HPAS to EPAS right?
Have you ever driven a 172 that's been converted to EPAS?
Do you have any experience in what you're saying at all?
And no it wouldn't be quicker, the money I've spent isn't...
I swear to god when people login to CS they just hit reply to threads without even reading them
It all helps though - if you can feel the point where the tyres are dying, you can back off a bit. I couldn't with the hydraulic PAS - or maybe the knackered rack bushes or whatever... and now I can...
I didn't say changing the rack made it grip better - I said changing the rack/pas system gave more steering feedback
I said changing the camber and coilovers made it grip better :)
Sorry maybe I should have said VARIABLE EPAS is awesome. Cos turning it off on track feels like holding the tie rods in your hands. It's amazing.
;) Glad you sorted it
Really?
I fitted bilsteins, hated them, slagged them off for months and months. Hated my car. Complained endlessly about...
The rubber seal at the bottom of the column - give it a push down, make sure it's as far down as it will go
Mine was about an inch too high and made the exact same noise
Had my first actual track session last night at Cadwell and have to say the EPAS is amazing. So worth the money as an upgrade, the improved feedback is awesome!
Where did I say it only applies to Clios?
It applies to all cars
The ones without airbags - well it would be fairly f**king retarded to insist that they all go out and have a very expensive and dangerous to fit safety system added to their cars.
It still doesn't mean that buying a car with...
Basically - you've removed the few safety features your car came with from the factory and then gone out on track to push your car harder than you would on the road.
That makes no sense.
Errrr ok?
I've been at track days where Clios have rolled, and I've seen people who have hit barriers slide under 4 point harnesses.
You have no harnesses and no roll cage in your "track car" (seriously, it's not) - if you go slightly too fast into a corner and go sideways into the kitty...
The cable has nothing to do with reverse - it just pulls the lever back down so it's sprung when you lift it up
The bit that stops you going into reverse is the big chunk of plastic on the gearstick housing - when you pull the nob up it clears that and allows you to go further left
All the...
If it doesn't have buckets and harnesses then it's not a track car - if you're on track putting your life in the hands of a single seatbelt and chunk of metal 1ft in front of your face then you're a braver/stupider man than me
^^ Not true any more - that's what the April changes are all about
They've changed the policy from "not fitted so can't be tested" to "removed so failure"
The guy at my MOT place was telling me that from April this year if you remove an ABS system it's a failure, remove airbags is a failure...
Awesome
I'm fairly excited about you moving up here cos I'm still planning a boosted engine build end of summer.. be handy to have an expert 15mins away haha
I wish there was more people up here doing trackdays!! - I'm doing Cadwell on Wednesday night with a few mates but I usually end up doing them on my own :(
Got a mate with a tuned EP3 and another lad with an EG civic running teg bits... but none of my mates are really into Clios
One of my good...

We'll be having a meet at a pub in Lincoln which is only 20mins from Newark this month :D
Bring the turbo! It'd be good to see it and we could go for a bit of a play in my bodied beast ;)
On the bottom pulley - the standard belt goes down and under the water pump - this belt is now going up to the alternator so it rubs on the cambelt cover
That's why you use a 5 rib belt - so the inside rib on the pulleys is empty and the belt doesn't rub
It's the pas pressure light - it is...
