My mates 2001 Y-Reg 172 is on nearly 90k miles now! :o
Its his company car though, so mainly all motorway, but in all the time it has hardly had any problems...
The CTR has loads of low down grunt...

If it was a newish (demonstrator) that you drove then it will still be tight...
RenaultSport dont fit a sunroof to the 172/Cup/182 for a reason...
If you go hacking the roof up and fitting a Webasto, youll wreck the torsional stiffness of the car and will adversely affect the handling!
Yeah, the turbo on the Phase 1 cars was air cooled, wheras the Phase 2 cars are water cooled and last a lot longer.
The Phase 1s aint any quicker Si, they have 115bhp vs 120bhp and weigh marginally less, theres nowt in it.
Weight, gearing, launch, etc...
So many factors affect the run time & terminal speed.
For example, both my Cup & CTR can run 14.5s however the CTRs terminal speed is 4mph faster!
Not necessarily... that white one above is mine, its spent a lot of time in myt parents garage not being used, but aint not HG problems, I just aint used it!
Not in standard or lightly modded form they wont!
You said >>>
"a gtt with an exhaust and filter running standard every thing else would piss all over a 16v"
Now suddenly youre talking about heavily modded cars running in the low 12s!?
Get back on track...
Speeds got too high for the 5 to have a chance though... they are better in lower speed blasts.
Nice to have the choice of both sat on the drive though!
Yes, the limiter is 7250rpm, but only when the engine is fully warmed up, its 6500rpm if not up to temp.
No, some mk1 172s, all mk2 172s and 182s have it besides the Cup.
It was in a much better place in the mk1 172 over near the rev counter, as opposed to the daft place it is on the newer...
Yeah, Ive driven both models of V6 several times now and the mk2 is the better of the two.
Looks superb, turns heads like nothing Ive driven and sounds superb, but for the price they are not my choice...
Id go for the 106 GTi myself... in fact, Ive already had one... ;)
Very similar to the VTS though, a lot of parts are the same, but the 106 is the better car IMO.
Best to stick with the standard 10W40 semi-synth for the first 10-12k miles (with an interim change) as it will allow the engine to bed in properly.
Switching to a fully synth so early means it will take even longer for the engine to reach full potential, and theres also no need to really...
