nah the sub would have to have it's own amp and you just take a phono set to it

what is the sub set at and i'd set it just slightly above that e.g LPF on sub is say 80 hz then i'd set the HPF on the comps to about 100 hz

yeah at the amp if it drops(like below 9v) when you fire it up then it's a bad earth

well for a start check the voltage at the amp when you switch the hu on also check to make sure you haven't blown the amp remote from the hu
