I had this done to my mk1 172 and had it RRd before and after. It didnt give 8bhp (where did u get 8bhp from?), but it seemed to make the engine more flexible. Whoever owns W46 YLC now has the upgrade fitted free of charge....they just dont know it.
Not bad, still loving the MG, even if it is a tarted up Rover 45. Should be at the June York meet if i dont kill the car car at a track day ive got booked in for June.
I joined on just about the first day it started as a club at a Hillpower open day (member number 1017). Its not a patch on what it used to be, but Im still here even though I dont have a clio anymore, so cant moan too much ;)
A lot of the XPower MG forum people have these fitted to their cars and really rate them. I dont understand how enough air gets through as it looks like it gets really narrow, but you cant argue with happy customers :D
Im sure its something to do with the xenon lights on mk2 172s attracting extra insects. Ive never had a car that has been covered in so many flies after a quick countryside blast as my old mk2 172.
The whole point in forking out £200+ for a Viper is that it is an enclosed induction kit that wont suck hot air from the engine bay in. As Brun says, definitely leave it on!
Not sure about the ZR heat shield, but here are the dealer part numbers for the ZS180 heat shield:
Shield - DQQ000060MMM
Rubber seal - DQH000010
Nuts - DYH000250
Screws - DYP000380 (all come in single packs)
My Renault dealer has now got up a sign as you go in saying:
"All customers entering this dealership must hand over the contents of their wallets and bend over so we can administer a proper shafting".
At least theyre honest about it.
If it helps, when i had a Magnex fitted it almost totally drowned out the induction kit. You might as well stick to an enclosed IK and get the noise from the exhaust.
Dont do it. I put a 1.6 MINI Cooper Viper on my 172 and it just killed the performance above about 4k revs. Was okay below this, but when serious amounts of air were required, it just wasnt enough.
Doesnt stop them round my end. The coppers from my local station go belting down the 30mph dual carriageway at 50mph and break hard for the Truvelo speed camera before speeding up again. Hypocrites.
Youre still paying money to Renault if you buy an import, and the dealers treat you like an even bigger turd thats just walked in off the street. I know this because my 1st 172 was an import.
Paddy - best way to get back at Renault is to never, ever by another of their sh*tty build quality cars and never spend another penny (unless pissing against one of their cars) at another Renault dealership. Theyre a total piss take. Even us Brits can put cars together better than the French...

You can get pocket pc based GPS systems for around £200+. Well within your budget.
In fact, my local Staples store was selling a pc/gps/software bundle for about £209 last weekend.
My local Charlie Browns are always good for fitting aftermarket parts. They wont guarantee the work as they sort of do it on the side, but theyd not charge more than £20 to fit a decat pipe.
£50/100 is just a rip off. Its a tricky job, rather than a hard job. With two people and a ramp a...
Agree totally. My own special Renault Hell is at Reg Vardy, Ecclesall Road, Sheffield: Cheers for never once managing to do anything right guys. It takes a special "talent".
There was another one where they had a Cup, a VTS and something else. They drove them round an underground carpark for a bit and decided the VTS was best car because it had free insurance
Read something in Car magazine about a Cup version of the 225 megane. Apparently the first version out has non-switchable traction control (well, it turns on automatically above 30mph)
