Hi guys,
What is an average price for these pads for a 172?
Im having a set of custom discs made up and the company doing the discs recommend these pads but hes having trouble finding out from Europe what the price would be.
Govend_d, I reckon powder coated in Anthracite would look good on your car (even better on my car:D)
Youre in Randburg right? There is a wheel refurbishing place round the back of the motorcity center on Hans Strydom..I think theyre called Rim Right, something like that...prices are quite...
Govend_d
PLEASE DO NOT RUIN THOSE WHEELS ON THE TRACK!!! Theyre hard enough to come by locally in decent condition.
If youre interested, Id gladly talk to you about doing you a deal...Ill swop you my 16" wheels and tyres for them...Hell Ive even go out and buy you a new set of 15" wheels...
Um...but arent the CTR and 182 cars in different classes?
Wouldnt it have been a closer match to put the 225 up against the CTR? since they are in the same price and size range? Although I think the CTR would still have been on top due to the 225s soggy handling
In that case the 182 did...
Why not recover it in Genuine Leather like the bottom section of the wheel
Im going to get mine done soon as since I got married, my wedding band is ripping chunks out of the Alcantara.
Dark grey leather to match the grey parts of the interior should do nicely
If you can afford insurance for the 172, then Id say get one, should be less maintenance than a valver or williams since its quite a bit newer.

Bit of a late reply, but Im still around, lurking on the forums, asking stupid questions and such...
See youve gotten yourself a little bit of a business going...wish you the best of luck mate
I owned a 1.4 16v RXE Alize before I bought the mk1 172 and in town the 1.4 was a much easier car to drive, mainly because of the clutch feel.
On the motorway, the 1.4 was fine for tootling along at the speed limit but crap for overtaking.
Overall I prefer the 172, but yes, it could be...
Congrats on the car.
The exhaust vibrations are common from 4000rpm to about 5000rpm.
Check your engine cover, it might be loose. Mine would vibrate and sound similar to the exhaust vibration but occured at much lower revs. I fixed it by removing the cover completely.
Well after my 600 pound service 2 weeks ago I got my car on the rolling road and was very happy with the results
RR was very stingy with most people saying it was between 8kW and 15kW shy of what it should be showing
In any case I got 79kW / 136Nm
a mate with a gti180 got 86kW / 138Nm...
sounds like how my 172 was performing, no power, shuddering and flat spots.
I had to replace a sheared top engine mount and a gearbox bolt (nut) was missing.
If its intermittant, then I dunno
MUCH MUCH worse!
Ive just forked out 600 quid...admittedly 120 of that was to replace the top right engine mount which had sheared in half...God only knows how the engine didnt fall out of the car:oops:
This isnt from Renault...they want even more money (at least another 50 quid)...its from a mechie who used to work at Renault and now has his own shop...
He does excellent work, spent 30 minutes with him before the service talking about what I needed done etc, then another 30 minutes just...
Just booked my mk1 172 in for its 60,000km (about 35,000mi) service
480 quid is the quote and that excludes fixing the suspected loose engine mount (shudder on pulloff, clutch is fine, engine doesnt move when revving or when trying to move it by hand in the engine bay)
Also excludes fixing...
Do any 172s have a pad sensor because I bought some ATs front pads last time I replaced pads and they had sensor wires coming out of them...my mk1 doesnt have sensors though
