Id say that much is not normal, it normally leaks very slowly that a bit sits under the gearbox. Open the top up hole, fill up with gearbox oil until its upto the hole, see how much it takes so you can measure how much its leaked out.
There is a 10mm bolt on the thermostat housing, you cant miss it. Its essential this is open when pouring in new coolant, close it up when coolant runs out freely with no air.
Its easy to get off, especially if yours is a early 172ph1, its just the one sensor on the downpipe, jack the whole front up, put on stands, one spanner and its off. Theres just enough room to turn the spanner.
The bushes rarely go, jack the back up and see if theres any play with a crow bar. Have you checked tyres & pressures?? If the back has had a big knock the rear trailing arms can become twisted.
Thats an early 172ph1 that has a vacuum feed running off the fuel rail, your ph2 wont have that pipe, i would have thought something like oil temp or oil pressure would be more useful....Im not sure what reading youd get...
60mm is easily do-able but the ride is harsh and your standard shocks will soon wear. My old clio was lowered on apex -40mm springs, i was very happy with the ride and handling but after 2 years they started to sag a little, the standard shocks were also fine with this height.
Youll need a cat to manifold fitting kit which includes new bolts, nuts, washers and gasket. Also youll prob need cat to centre section gasket and new bolts depending on how rusty they are.
The ph2 airbags are not compatible with ph1 cars, this was discussed ages ago but i cannot find the thread. Thats why the connectors are slightly different.
As already mentioned on the ph1 plenum it has the provisions on the back for the idle control valve, im surprised your getting any kind of idle at all!!
You can seethe icv in the pic below, the ph1 does have that outlet circled number 2, that goes down the back somewhere, cannot remember where...
Take the rear plastic cover off the handbrake, see if it has an adjuster nut on the lever (only some had these). If not jack the car up on stands on one side. Take off the centre heat shield above the centre section right in the middle of the car, tighten the nut on the handbrake cable...
A lot of them have a slight leak there, as long as the whole thing is not full of oil its not too much to be worried about. You also have a small leak near one of the bolts, again this is fairly common and doesnt look too excessive.
