I used to own a Grande, trust me mate its not worth spending any money on the engine. As mentioned if you really want to, concentrate on removing weight and improve handling with decent tyres and suspension mods. The brakes are already decent enough.
Nice pics, Ive yet to see that Vulcan. That Lancaster flew over my house last weekend on its way to the Cosby airshow. It sounded absolutely amazing, it sends a chill down your spine!!
They just pull off, you have to pull hard if theyve never been off before. Theres not much chance of breaking anything as long as you are gripping the end.
Id check the level on the dipstick to make sure its under the max line. Thats way too much, like someone said it looks like its been overfilled or the car may have been on its side or upside down at some point.
I know of a company in Worcester, I used them through my mate, they turn them round in a day. Did both of mine although they say mine were "unique" and they charged a bit more. Ive emailed him for contact details.
It should be changed, the lower idlers are a bit exposed to the elements, they can fail and can cause belt snaps. The bearing in the tensioner can also go and the plastic can go brittle.
Over tightening the rear discs can cause serious failures to the wheel bearings, the rear discs should be tightened to 175nm. There was a guy on here not long ago where the garage over tightened the nut and ended up the whole wheel and rear disc coming off at speed.
Its hard to say without look but I doubt the calipers caused the cracks, the cracks are due to them being really worn and corroded. Renault have reduced the price of the discs to around £100. The pads are not too taking around £35 from memory. Its easy to fit yourself, theres a guide on here...
They do sort of cough and puff anyway, try and check to see if its blowing around the centre section where it joins the backbox. They normally go here first.
My old one before it was colour coded, I remember sanding them down ready for spraying and was definitely a dark grey. If you use a good black bumper stuff they will probably look black.
