Its the belt which takes drive from the engine and turns the alternator, power steering pump, air con compressor and water pump. Imagine how many times this piece of rubber spins round and round, stopped and started, cooled down and heated up. The rubber starts to perish after 2 years.
Ive managed to get a bearing out of a clio drum in my garage before by using the cave man method. Its a lot of effort and the old bearing was completly destoryed, best to take your drum or disk to a garage and get them to press it out and stick the new one in.
Ive highlight my name in red as I have a 172mk1 that has extra rarity ;) .

Undo the 2 bolts on the undertray that go in the subframe, undo the 2 bolts on the front of the bumper near the lights. Loosen the top screws on the arch liner that go into the bumper. Peel the arch liner back and there is 1 bolt either side up behind the arch liner. Pull the bumper off...
1. There is a 5 second delay when I turn my foglights on but never use them so not bothered
2. Air conditioning hasnt been gassed since it was de-gassed for a new radiator about a year ago.
Put the rear demister on, give it 5 mins and put your hand on the mirror glass, if its warm you have them. The 172mk1 has them its just one of those things Renault didnt avertise much.
It should be ok, they dont lower the car that much, expect the shocks to wear out more quickly than usual though, might have problems after 2 years or so.
