refitting standard steering wheel - straightforward or not ?

My 172 currently has a tatty OMP steering wheel. Was toying with the idea of an aftermarket one but it seems there is a chance it will Cause me problems come MOT time. Is it going to be expensive and difficult to source a standard wheel and airbag and fit it? What will I need to buy? Are there...

Phase 1 steering wheel ideas - show me yours

I've currently got a tatty old OMP steering wheel in the 17 at the most which let's the interior down a bit IMO. I'm toying with the idea of either a retrimmed standard wheel or another aftermarket one. On the one hand the standard one will keep OEM looks which is a appealing but on the other...

    Changing cars.. What to get?

I've been there and done that, trying to swap cars before they needed work, or to save money. It never ever seems to work out for the best, financially. Long story short. If you REALLY want to save money, buy a 106D. Anything else, the savings are likely to be marginal. Better the devil you...

Whiteline ARB on standard suspension set up

Cheers :D Think it'll be the first thing to do when I finish paying off the essential repairs it needed. That, and a remap (I see another thread coming).

    182 "holding back" from cold

Sometimes mine literally will not even rev at all, then like you say it frees up. Took mine to the garage over it, where a multitude of other problems were found, culminating in me spending a rather obscene amount of money fixing those. That "problem" remains.

Whiteline ARB on standard suspension set up

Just wondering about this for the future. I have a Phase 1 Clio 172 and I'm pretty happy with the ride and handling of the car, but thats not to say it can't be improved. My car is pretty much 100% a road car, so the suspension travel is welcome for the bumpy roads I go on. It is hilarious to...

I can't believe how rare my car was!

Must admit, if I'd realised the extent of how much my Phase 1 was due to cost me (extensive repairs needed), when I bought it, I'd probably have got rid straight away. As it is, the damage is done now, and I've saved this one, for now.

I can't believe how rare my car was!

I'd be interested to know how many Phase 1 172s are actually left on the roads. Must be less than 1,000 I'd guess?

Car very grumpy on cold starts

Sorry for the late reply chaps, thanks for all your advice. Since I asked, its pretty random but certainly isn't getting any worse, so I'll leave it as the car is running spot on!

Car very grumpy on cold starts

Thanks. I'm just wondering though would this not cause me to have very poor fuel consumption? I had a faulty lambda on an MX5 once and struggled to get 20 MPG.

Car very grumpy on cold starts

Just had my car (ph1 172) in for a load of work, including to fix one problem which was the car running a bit ropey on a cold start. The work I've had done includes new cambelt and dephaser etc, clean up throttle body, new throttle cable and a service. They have had it hooked up to their...

    Am I mad?

Once I get it back, since I got it (only say 5 weeks ago) it will have had a new cambelt, dephaser, water pump, aux belt, front brake discs, pads, standard springs (de-apexed), new rear shocks, 4 new tyres, 4x 16" OZ F1s to replace 17" OZ Superturismos, a new wiper mechanism, stainless steel mid...

    Am I mad?

Jesus - it wasn't my intention in fairness. I thought it needed a couple of jobs, but it slowly revealed more and more things I hadn't noticed. Yep, I'm not great at buying cars (I won't bore you with the history). Its just spiralled out of control somehow. Once you've spent so much, you feel...

    Am I mad?

For spending £1600 fixing a Phase 1 172 that only cost me £1400. It was tired, and needed de-chavving, but not really a sensible thing to do spend more than the car is worth on making it work and look proper again? Well, that's what I am doing, and there's no going back. I'm trying to tell...

    DCI's look inside !!

I've got one of these as a courtesy car - truth be told, couldn't tell you which model, probably a 65 would be my guess, but I have to say an 80 or 100 with a remap would be a fun little car, they still seem to handle pretty well even after jumping out of my RS, and a remapped one would have a...

    Fix it or get rid?

I really, REALLY hope you're right about that! This level of expenditure isn't sustainable. This place I'm taking it to probably isn't the cheapest, but looking on here, I've not seen a bad word about them, so I'm hoping they can make the car good again. ETA: Its Hutchies garage IIRC too.

Well its booked in for monday at Mickleton Service station for the work. My wallet is already shuddering!!

    Fix it or get rid?

Danith, I'm not that desperate. It is really feckin annoying though when I've just got out of debt and really need to be saving as I'm only in temp work. But I think I've pretty much decided not to sell or break. Its pretty much a fairly rare modern classic nowadays and it would as you say be a...

    Fix it or get rid?

How much do Diamond charge, doesn't say on the website? I'm leaning towards fixing it. I wanted a 172 or I wouldn't have got one. If I sell this car and buy another, what guarantee do I have this wont happen again? 50/50 at best I'd say given my past track record.

    Fix it or get rid?

Re TW & Barker - thats who told me about it. I've read mostly good things about Barker etc, but I'm tempted to take it to Mickleton as I've heard nothing bad about them and Hutchie works there. Part of me thinks its a shame to get rid though...

Does anyone else get talking to these utter drivellers.

Its not just you. In my experience, most people I encounter are pathological liars. They lie so much they don't even know they're doing it. Move on and get on with your life. Its just not worth even giving people like this time of day. It is infuriating though, knowing how many people are...

    Fix it or get rid?

Just bought a Phase 1 172 about a month ago. 74K miles. Recent cambelt. Decent overall condition. A few tasteless chavvy mods (now removed). £1400. I do like the car. Replaced the exhaust system with a quiet stealth system. Replaced the 17" wheels with 16" OZ F1s. Have got some standard...

Bought springs off ebay, one has rust, should I be concerned? (picture inside)

To be fair, if it is only cosmetic then thats fine... but I'm certainly not going to waste my time [putting them on] if it is anything worse, thats why I seek the opinions of CS! :)

Bought springs off ebay, one has rust, should I be concerned? (picture inside)

Here's a link to another advert, where he [not the seller in question here] describes them as "very good condition". They look significantly worse even than the ones I've got - but at least they don't try to hide the fact...

Just got these springs delivered off fleabay and noticed one of them has rust. Should I be concerned or is it merely cosmetic?

CLIO IV RS - Trophy from page 111

Re: CLIO IV RS for 2013, Last news That's a big "if" though. At the end of the day, it DOES add complexity, and it IS more that COULD go wrong. Each to their own though, I suppose. Its just that, for me, one of the draws of the RS Clios was the fact they were N/A screamers. You could choose...

CLIO IV RS - Trophy from page 111

Re: CLIO IV RS for 2013, Last news Another naturally aspirated hot hatch bites the dust. I know turbos are quick, but they tend to be less reliable / durable, and the low down torque makes for effortless driving, but less rewarding IMO. The thing is, to make any of the current RS Clios go...
