Bugger. Tbh i've decided i hate having the D40 now....damn crappy AF-S system. It might be me but i can only find the 70-300 Chris is talking about with the AF system that works with everything BUT the D40. Unless i fork out and get a 70-300 VR which seems the only one with AF-S :(

i picked up a velbon D-700 for £20 off a friend, i hear manfrottos are the way to go though.

i'm not willing to pay £500 on a lens to be honest....not just yet anyway

New lens for my D40 in a couple of weeks. Shall be shooting mainly sports stuff (motorsport, BMX, Kayaking) Looking at getting a nikon 55-200mm AF-S VR. Now i've heard from some people i wouldn't really be quick enough for motorsport ect....is this right and if so what would you recommend...

IMO the only grill to have other than a sport one is an MS designs one (if you can get them still)

like 2 and 3. Could probs do with a bit of a tighter crop on them to take some distracting areas out of the photo though.

It's not all MP though, I've shot with both D40 and D40X and to be fair you could only tell the difference when you blew the photos up to in excess of 30".

i like my d40 but.......as people have said try both as i couldn't get on with the canon at all.
