    bit of advice on finance?

Credit card interest is currently at about 18.9%APR, and the 0% on new purchase offers only last a few months. Also, most credit card companies won't give you a 20k credit limit!

    Average lifespan for brake pads?

Rear pads and discs on my car look like they've never been changed - but probably will be tomorrow. Front pads also need a change - 5,000 miles and 4 trackdays!

    Remake or Sequel

Tie Fighter and/or Freespace 3 - love space sims +1 for Syndicate - new version (c)ould be awesome + 1 for Elite also (I liked frontier: Elite 2 though). Braben apparently has to finish off the Outsider first, which is taking almost as long as Duke Nukem Forever...

    Mass Effect 2

I was meant to be playing through it as a hero, but my shepherd has taken a turn for the worst and so sacrifised the engineers in return for killing Vito! I got midway through recruiting the Assassin last night.

    Mass Effect 2

If by the free ones you mean zathrian and the original normandy (only thing I did last night was finish up at Omega and do this mission, found it a little emotional actually :o), they are found by exploration. Any extra armour and items are equipped on the normandy. I refuse to use the blood...

    Mass Effect 2

Yeah, did that before the Archangel one last night, and then switched off. Not used either Archangel or the doc yet though on a mission, are they any good? I'm playing as an infiltrator for sniper rifle and inferno good-ness. btw - if you've got a bit further on than me, no spoilers please...

    Mass Effect 2

Really enjoying it too, put about 5 hours into it yesterday. I'd restarted the first one a couple of weeks ago in preparation for this but I couldn't plough my way through all the rubbish/boring planetary exploration in time to finish it before getting this. Won't go back to the first one either...

    It had to happen eventually....

Do the cars have to actually be scrapped/crushed? Could you not just take it off the road and use it as a track car?

Funniest Thing You Have Been Told By A Dealer...

Waters Renault St Albans yesterday: Me: hello, my 182, which I bought from you a couple of years ago, needs a 5 year service shortly, including a cambelt change. Please could you give me a quote. Service manager (I've met him before, he's actually quite a nice chap): Certainly sir, let me have...

    front tyres

I had contis on the front when I bought the car, changed them to PE2s last time round and I'm probably going back to contis when the PE2s are finished.

    1.2 track car

The racing fiestas don't use a big engine and are very fast. but I'd imagine it would cost a fortune to turn a 1.2 into a track weapon. If you can afford a skyline, why not just buy a 1*2.

    Decent road pads

I should point out that I run DS2500s, and they are awesome, but I track my car. If I didn't I'd probably just use OE to be honest. I've got 4 trackdays and 5,000 road miles or so out of them, if that's helpful, but they do squeak a bit!
  16. G

    Decent road pads

Surely OE will be fine if you aren't tracking it? You shouldn't be getting brake fade on the road and the stopping power is perfectly decent. Otherwise, I believe the main alternatives are green stuff or something similar but they seem to have a pretty bad rep (I've not used them though).

    Ignition/key issue

^ And that will be expensive and need to be done by a dealer! Thanks; if it happens to me I suppose I will have to investigate further.

    Ignition/key issue

Cheers mate, that's what I thought. But she claims that she is moving the steering wheel before trying to turn the key - in fact, I had the privilage of listening to her wrench it from side to side just now! I've never had the problem myself and she's not been able to replicate it while I've...

    Ignition/key issue

A strange problem this, and I've done a good search to see if it's happened to others but no luck: My girlfriend has used the 182 to drive to work today. Set off just fine this morning, left it in the car park today and... I've just had a panicked call from her saying she can't turn the key in...

Best place for new 182 tyres south east

if they're bald, then yes probably is sensible to get new ones before. If there's a couple of mm left though on the front, I'd keep an eye on them, probably finish them off in the morning, and swap the front and rears over at the lunch break. But it's up to him; all I can say is that I bought...

Best place for new 182 tyres south east

Unless you are already at or below the legal minimum, don't get new tyres just before you do a trackday. I did - the edges of the tyres look decayed already, I lost a lot of rubber off the outside edges and I had the get the wheels re-balanced due to excessive wear the following week. Get them...

    I'm considering Mintex 1144's - BUT...

3 trackdays a year? I've done 4 this year and I can't recommend the DS2500s enough. They've performed brilliantly, terrific stopping power no matter how hard I've abused them, no brake fade and they've got enough left on them to get me through this winter. I've had no problems with my wheels...

    Slicks (R888) on a standard 197

I've got a 182 so it's not quite the same, but I did my first trackday at the weekend where I ran R888s rather than PE2s and the difference is seriously noticable - the grip level is much higher and you gain a lot of confidence. However, I wouldn't use R888s on the road - there wasn't a lot of...

    Elephant + remaps

Gone with greenlight in the end. Would've preferred to use Sky Insurance as they are local to me, but they were £100 more expensive in the end (thanks to Luke and his colleague for trying though!) Added bonus is the trackday cover option!

    Elephant + remaps

27! I don't mind, I was planning on leaving at renewal time anyway as they're not as cheap as some of the other providers now. Just brought it forward!
  28. G

    Elephant + remaps

I agree, but I have to keep everything above board for my job. I believe it's technically fraudulent not to declare and, in a worse case scenario (e.g hit someone, leave them paralysed, insurers have huge claim against them so check absolutely everything etc), could lead to me being struck off.
  29. G

    Elephant + remaps

In an effort to keep everything legal following my recent JMS remap etc, I rang up elephant today to declare the modification with the expectation that they would charge me ££, I would pay it and everyone would be happy. Instead... they informed me that their underwriting department was not...

    Clio 182...what do you dislike?

Craig - yeah, that's true, although I get the excess insured as well. It's not just if you drive like a tw@ though, it's what others do as well. OP - personally, if I had a ferrari I wouldn't be able to resist taking it out for one day at least (but I'd be crapping myself!) - it's the only...
