Some third party warranty companies cover MOT failure and are cheaper than manufactures extended warranties. Warranty Direct covers some wear & tear. There are a few other good ones too.

I would definitely sell your mk1 privately if you get rid of it. Personally Id wait until the end of summer for the prices of the mk2 to drop to their lowest (before the end of production) and then get one. Prices might level out after they stop making the mk2, but Id imagine the mk1 prices...

Read the Evo article last night, and the impression they give is that all the issues with the mk1 have been sorted to create a drivers dream with the mk2. Obviously the mk2 is a big improvement, but its never going to be anything less than a handful. What type of places can do a proper 4 wheel...
