Your Honest Opinions of the 182 ... ?

You are a naughty young man.

Pah! Heavy clutch? Not after driving a mk2 Golf GTI it aint ;)

    Whats the 197's top speed?

At the end of the day, if all you want is high top speed on the cheap, you might as well just buy a Mk1 Octavia vRS and get it remapped by Jabba. Pre remap they hit 146 and after it over 155 geniune MPH. Clios are not designed to be mile munchers.

    K&N 57i Gen 2 Induction KIt

Personally i cant see the point of a panel filter. It seems largely accepted that any filter / induction kit makes little real difference, so why pay £40-£50 for something thats not going to change the noise, and not really going to add power? At least with a half decent induction kit, if set...

Monaco Blue 172 with 182 wheels...???

Whats wrong with the std wheels? I quite like the 172 wheels TBH. Kinda smacks of pretending to be something it isnt IMO.

Why? Cant you afford one? Retarded comment TBH.

    Whats the 197's top speed?

My 182 feels perfectly safe at over a ton. Who cares about top speeds? And yes a Golf GTI may feel more stable / whatever at those speeds, but as Evo said, you have to go into deep license losing territory to have fun in the same way as you could at 80 in smaller cars.

    172cup vs V6

No comparison for me. The v6 is a far superior car.

    New 182 Owner

Dont you think its possible he found the clio more fun to drive? I mean i know how many people in here would sleep with a civic type R if it were a person, but not everyone subscribes to the view that its neccesarily a better car. ;) I've driven one, and the word soul-less springs to mind.

Just had my pads/lines/fluid done, and brakes seem worse?

As far as i know it was all bled properly and fitted properly. The bloke who did it for me builds racing minis and is / has been a mechanic with his own business. I've had plenty of stuff done by him before and its all been ok. I'll just see how they develop over the next few hundred miles or...

Just had my pads/lines/fluid done, and brakes seem worse?

OK, last week i had my OEM pads which were worn, changed to the new green stuff pads, and while i was at it, i had the brake fluid changed (castrol DOT4) and metal brake lines installed. What I noticed at first was the much better pedal feel on the brake (that'll be the metal lines presumably)...

Sports cat, panel filter, remap: need to tell insurance company?

I havent told them about mine. As far as I'm concerned it doesnt affect the cars performance at all so I see no point in notifying them. I have however notified them of my exhaust.

    Another 197 mini review....

What are the gear ratios then? Anyone know what the 197 tops out at in each gear? AFAIC, the 182 is a better drivers car and i aint even driven it. After all the impressions from members here, i dont have to. And it was obvious anyway.

Simota Twin Charger Induction Kit for 172/182

The prices look very reasonable. I think i might try one of these kits out on mine some time. Which one do you reckon would be the best one to go for?

Is it only me who really likes the standard 182 wheels?

I notice a lot (most?) people with Clio 182's seem to like changing the wheels, either to those turini wheels or more tragically, to some 17" halfords specials which makes the car look like a rollerskate. I think the standard wheels are really spot on. OK, some say the have poor venting, but...

    braided brake lines

I've had some braided lines from yozzasport fitted along with greenstuff pads, and it makes quite the difference i will say that much, they feel a lot better now.

Simota Twin Charger Induction Kit for 172/182

Am I missing something here? I cant see a price for this anywhere.
  18. T

    182 prices going up??

Definitely. IMO the 197 just does not move the game forward at all. At least when we went from the 16v/williams to the 172, we saw improvements in performance, safety, equipment, and yet it still remained fun to drive. Going now though from the 182 to the 197, well, from what i gather it may...

Just took a 197 out for a test drive

For me, its not about raw acceleration figures. Its how the acceleration feels when you are driving it. And to me it sounds like the 197 loses the sensation of speed that the older clios have. That is in fact, why a lot of people prefer older cars (like the williams etc). I had a mk2 Golf GTI...

Possible to put cone filter inside original airbox?

Anyone know? Is there not one you could just put straight in? Please help as i know nothing about these things ;)

    Silly Quick 182Cup?

And thats a problem why? IME, according to owners, EVERY type of car needs 60,000 miles before its run in by which time it gains 100 bhp over new. Snake oil IMO.
  22. T

Possible to put cone filter inside original airbox?

Is it possible? I'd rather like increased induction roar. Not bothered about power gains. However, definitely do NOT want to lose power or torque. I've done a search and there seems not to be anything conclusive about this that I can see. Dont want a panel filter as it wont increase...

    172 v's Elise

Agreed. I've driven a Celica with the 190 engine. It sounds better than any 4-pot i've ever heard, period. Much better than the CTR and much better than the Clio (which sounded like a hoover afterwards). It sounded like a mini F1 car when on cam. Also in a 1200 kg Celica it gave it 182 rivalling...

    172 v's Elise

I've had a passenger ride in an S1 Elise, 135 bhp, and it was upgraded with Exige suspension and brakes. Naturally, the roof was down too. What a car. Difficult to get in and out off (particularly I imagine, with the roof up). The noise it makes is visceral. Performance wise, not as great as...

Really want a 172 cup but...

Totally agree with mr munsons post. I've hardly ever utilised ABS in any car thats had it to be honest. I never had it in my Golf GTI. Never missed it either. Most of the time when its come on, its been on snow / ice, and then its absolutely terrible TBH.

    RS3 197 - Straight Line Thread

Cant see them using a turbo. I think they wanted to avoid it, because frankly, the days of normally aspirated screamers seems to be numbered. Personally I prefer normally aspirated engines for hard driving, their delivery is just more rewarding. I think if Reno do make a "Cup" version, then...

    RS3 197 - Straight Line Thread

Cant see them producing that much more power from a NA engine unless they do some pretty radical upgrades to it, which of course, would put the price way up.
