I got these replaced and fitted OK apart from one thing.
On the passenger side I tightened the strut top nut till you could feel it was trying to move the top mounting plate, but on the drivers side when tightening the nut both the piston and the nut are moving. It was tightened fine initially...
Like I say - all just ideas in my head. I keep thinking I might do it then start thinking I should just buy a valver as it looks better as standard etc. I would have to find out about insurance too and don't know how much of the work I could do as I would be doing it all by myself.
Don't give me ideas dave, it could be dangerous ;). I was also toying with the idea of putting a williams bottom end with a 16v head in it for a super sleeper. It might all be a bit much work for me though.
Cheers mate, PM me if they become availiable. If I do raise the back it's only going to be till I get some 55mm for the front. As the guy at the petrol station said to me tonight it looks like I have about six people in the back of the car.
Damn, as I say hoping to get some 55mm springs but only if they are cheap as I can't see myself keeping the car much longer anyway, unless I do a 16v conversion for a bit of a project.
Yeah, I've just put a post in the wanted section. Hopefully be able to do a straight swap, but probably unlikely that anyone will want to do a straight swap.
Yeah I was thinking yours had been 55mm, but thought mine looked a lot less. I take it you have sold the 55mm springs you had for sale a while ago dave?
I'm so bloddy annoyed about that. If it was just after I had bought them I could have a go at the guy and get my money back but it was about 6 months ago that I got them. Now I'm gonna have to raise the back as it just looks stupidly low with front as it is.
Thanks for the help folks.
I'm guesing that setling won't really come into it with mine as they have been on a car?
So annoyed as it seems as though the guy I bought the springs off lied about them being 55mm springs.
Heres some pics of my freshly lowered RT. What drop would you say it has at the front? I was told when I bought the springs (second hand) that they were 55mm springs but to me it looks like a 35mm drop, if that.
Drivers Side
Passenger Side (I think it's slightly higher than drivers)...
Thanks for posting the pics mate. Looks like a good way of sorting it. As I say I can't weld and I can't be bothered forking out for it but I might see if I can set something up to hold it up by wrapping round the exhaust. First thing is to tray refitting it though.
I've just lowered my Clio (almost finsihed) but just wanted to check about the rear brake bias thing. Is it really necessary to adjust this or should it be OK. I'll probably test it out on some empty roads to see what happend under really hard braking.
If you do need to adjust it, ho wdo you...
It's not flexing as such, it just that it hangs down quite a bit. It kind of gets gradually lower as you move further from the decat. The part where there is a 90 degree bend is the lowest part. I will try to take some pics tomorrow.
cheers mate, Mine doesn't have a silencer either BTW, it's just a straight through exhaust to the back box.
I wish I could weld, would make things a lot easier.
Thanks mate, pictures would be good even though it would probably be too much work for all I'm bothered about it. It's been suggested to me on another forum that it's possible to sort it by just setting up the join just after the midsection properly. I had thought about trying that before so...
Having lowered my car i've realised just how much my exhaust sags on the clio. Basically it hangs quite low on the centre section which attaches to the decat at one end and goes back towards the back box. The point it's lowest at is where it has a 90 degree turn.
When I fitted my current...
Going to be fitting lowering springs tomorrow (to Mk1 Ph2 1.4RT) and just had a few questions.
Is the following everything that needs done:
Removal:
Remove strut top nut and strut to hub nut then remove strut completely. Remove rubber mounting from top of strut. Compress the springs and...
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to cleaning the car properly TBH (usually just give it a quick going over with a bucket and sponge :o ) but just wanted some advice on a few things.
What cloths would you suggest for drying the car? I've seen a few people mention Tesco microfibre ones which...
The job itself is really easy TBH once you have the right things (i.e. not the wrong size socket). I have now lowered both sides of mine 55mm and they are both at the exact same height, which is good as previously one side was 15mm higher than the other.
I found it was best to raise the hub...
LOL, well and truly mate :o .
It took all of about 30 seconds after I found some tubing to put on the end of the socket. The socket I was using was 27mm as I had been told on here ages ago that that was the right size. I would guess 29mm, but I don't know for sure as I was just lucky that I...
lol, I'm a right plank. It turns out the socket was just too small. I hadn ruled that out before because I hadn't paid any attention to the fact the torsion bar was slightly tapered at the end so I though it was fitting OK in the socket
I did soak it in WD40 a few days ago but it's still done it. I've got some more screws now so will have one more go doay and if that doesn't work then I'll just leave it to soak in WD40 overnight. I'm not really needing the car this week so I can just take my time to getting everything sorted...
