Managed to get booked into Kwik Fit this morning to sort the Aircon - cheers @Brigsy
The chap who did the work also supplied my tyres and is an all-round good egg and a proper petrol-head. I also discovered, he’s at the Nurburgring at the same time as I am, so that should be cool.
Took...
Just looking on the J&R website here - https://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/car-parts/drive-shafts.html
According to that website when I put my reg number in - see screenshot - the DS248 fits my car. Mine’s a 182 FF Cup Packed car also, but the ABS ring is too narrow.
Here’s the one I have still...
What car do you have again and which side? I have a brand new drivers one in a box here - not Shaftec though - but it’s doing nothing. Can check the part number if I know which model.
Gave her a proper blast over God’s Country this morning. New radiator seems to be holding up well. No leaks, nice and stable. Car feels great.
Booked in for service, MOT and Aircon Regas next week 🤞🏻
I’ve never bought one to be fair. Biggest criticism I have seen is the CV boot not being the right size and tearing on the sump. I’ve had 4 Renault Sport 182’s - 2 circuit cars, 2 road cars and fitted Shaftec to them all. Never had an issue. It’s a genuine refurbished Renault part, so I stick...
Early start to put it all back together.
No dramas - everything went according to plan. I spent most of the time going over everything and cleaning up as I went.
New ECU bracket installed—thanks, @Colin-S . The old one had caused a few scratch marks due to some movement, so I touched...
The rain hasn’t stopped, so I did some work in the garage. I bought a load of new bolts and clips to attach the new condenser to the new radiator and then to the fan shroud. As usual, the missus has been messing about in there and thrown her stuff everywhere, so I couldn’t find them.
Being an...
Thanks Colin.
Yeah those are soaking in some DEOX-C right now and will be getting the Gun Oil treatment..again!
Yes, both repainted Black.
I snapped it a few months back and was proper peeved off. I’ve broken 3 now in 7 years. It’s not bothering me too much at the moment, but if you come...
Spring, my arse. It started bloody raining on the one day I began working on my car. 😤
Still, I managed to get the bumper off - I hate doing this on my own - and the radiator, condenser, and dryer. The ECU is out, and I removed some inner liners to check for corrosion.
Everything looks...
SPRING REFRESH
Amazingly, it’s been over four years since I purchased this car and completed its restoration. Of course, I’ve been maintaining the car over the 6,000 miles I’ve covered since taking ownership. As I have a few days off, I’m going to give the old girl some TLC and refresh some...
Your coilovers look a bit too low. I’d raise them to let the dampers rebound properly and absorb bumps, so you’re not bouncing around the circuit. You can also cause uneven tyre wear as the car skips across the surface. It may not look as cool, but you’ll get better grip, handling, and avoid...
I’ve been through this Renault diagnostic nightmare too - non-Renault tools spitting out codes left and right. Your fault codes (DF002, DF057, DF135, DF235, DF236, DF152, DF076) are interconnected, likely triggered by the car not starting rather than being the root cause. I had 20+ codes on my...
182 uses a JC5-130 gearbox as standard but I’m aware of an exchange unit - JC5S89 - which was available from Renault. Is this what you’re referring to?
The 172 used JC5-129 or JC5-089, which had a speedo drive. The “JC5S89” could be a service part - a remanufactured JC5-130 - or a related JC5...
I’ve tried all of these on my Clio 182 over the last 7 years, except the Continentals, which I hear are very good. Here are your choices:
Continental PremiumContact 6
Goodyear Eagle F1
Avon ZV7
Yokohama AD08RS
Michelin Pilot Sport 3
All good tyres, but it depends on your use. I switched from...
Sorting out the mechanicals is key to ensuring the car is reliable - neglect them, and that’s where you’ll come unstuck. Things like paintwork, corrosion, and the interior can be tackled as you go, but if the fundamentals aren’t right, you’re in for trouble. If you get a gut feeling something...
Yeah, -2.5 is a fairly aggressive setup for the road to be fair. And as I said, I think Track Torque messed up. -2.2 degrees marginally less aggressive with little to no noticeable wear from travelling back and forth, and it still performed well on track. What's a typical street setup? -1 to...
K-Tec were selling them cheaply at the time. NLA from them now.
I can give you the VDO part number—VDO P/N (A2C59513667). Pasting that into Google brings up quite a few. As long as it's VDO and has that part number, you should be good to go. Renault didn't make these, fortunately. Good luck!
I ran around -2.5 degrees on my 182 when I was using AST 5100s and planning to use it on track. Toe-out was 2mm on either side. The rear was untouched.
The original plan was to drive it back and forth to Croft, which is 30 miles each way. I never got around to taking it on the circuit as I then...
Same part numbers for 172, 172 Cup and 182 so I guess so.
I have a set in the garage but I won’t get in there until the weekend, but if you get stuck, let me know.
