A 1.2 will give awful economy when pushed.
a 1*2 is perfectly capable of giving around 36-38mpg if you drive it at the same pace everyone else drives at ;)
If your economy is really that bad and you want to do something about it, I'd look to a new lambda sensor first. My thread on it...
Nope, Manifold Fab guy is Johnathan Deeley. Seem some photos of his previous work and I'm certinally happy that he's up to the job.
I'm never going to get equal length driveshafts in there. That'll be a real nightmare with the downpipe interfering with the intermediate bearing. What I was...
Update #2
I finished this 3rd engine mount a little while ago and I've spent some time wondering whether i'm happy with it or not.
The problem with it becomes clear further down.
Firstly. The bolt holes for the VAG dog-bone are further over to the N/S of the car. This means I needed...
decat and 182 manifold worked really nicely for me (I made a guide for this also)
I wouldnt ever expect a performance gain from plugs unless you have a problem with the ones in there currently.
Matched inlets are a good buy from what I've heard.
As for the camber bolts, you can use them to dial...
it would be expensive. Think about it carefully and ask yourself if you can really be bothered with the expense and hassle for the car.
oh, and never, ever use everycarpart.com, just incase you were thinking of it for the panel
best mod to start with is remove the drivers seat bushes. It's free and it improves the driving position.
Then go for sportline spring and chamber bolts.
you need a full engine and box from a donor car.
182 and 172Ph2 are the same engine. It's just the exhaust manifold and sometimes a nicer RS stamped inlet on the 182
172Ph2 have different inlet manifold breaters and obviously a cable throttle.
If it was me, I'd change it. I've just changed one that lasted just 7k. It caused poor running from cold, immediately solved with a new sensor.

Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
don't forget to consider DTA
http://www.dtafast.co.uk/S_60_PRO.htm
The S60 has similar functions to emerald including CAN, which omex doesent have. I've never heard a bad word about DTA.
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
I've just commissioned a custom turbo manifold......this leaves me more than short of the £25 RTOC want! But I have signed up unpaid.
Honestly though. There is very very little in it between omex and emerald. I chose emerald as it does a few extra things...
My 182'd 172 felt much better round the top end. Like there was some resistance removed from the high end of the revs.
The second lambda sensor will probably throw an emissions light up onto the dash. Could leave it out but still plugged in and you wouldnt get a light.
Never bother replacing the one further downstream. It's just diagnostic as far as I can work out. All it does it turn on a light to say that your cat is f*cked.
I would definitely recommend replacing the upstream one. Just replaced mine literally an hour ago and it's already running much much...
Lol. I'll see if the funds will stretch to that yet :D
selling the 172 shortly so that should help
Edit: if anyone knows anything about the VAG G235 sensors, please post :)
Right :D
A guy came round today about a custom turbo manifold for my project
We've decided on a top mounted:evil:, central, equal length manifold in 316 stainless. The guy is an ex-prodrive TIG welder and i've seen some of his work and it's WOW
I mentioned an EGT (exhaust gas temperature)...
F7P would be a straight fit, but it's a big b@stard, and your right in thinking it won't be that fast.
If you could source a EFI C1J, i'd go with that, alternatively an EFI converted C1J would be great. How much power are you expecting the standard block to handle? I don't know what they take...
