I would pin the crank, then see where the cams are in relation to the bottom end by attempting to fit the horseshoe. If you're happy to attempt the top end bit, pinning the crank shouldn't phase you, it's one bolt (E torx) line the tdc mark up on the flywheel and gearbox, and slide the pin in
There is no right answer really, if you want to upgrade, then do it. If not, then don't. It's your car, do what you want to do, there's plenty of choices available whatever you decide
that's well worth re-timing with the existing belt and doing a compression test. I think you may have got exceptionally lucky going by the compression you have now. If you have good compression when re-timed, replace the full belt kits and buy a lottery ticket
the cup setup uses different brackets, mounts the PAS pump a lot lower, and runs a different alternator with a sliding adjuster, not the auto tensioner of the AC setup
There's a handful of options, Cup or volvo brackets is the most popular solution

Depends on the series you intend to use it in I guess. Tintops doesn't require certification IIRC, just scrutineering by the organisers. Don't recall either of the 2 I've prepped for the same series having any issue with modification. I added lots of bits to both
just been back for a look at the original cage pictures. IMO there's about 15-20kg of extras that could be cut out without compromising safety. That would be a nice improvement
only way to make it lighter is remove things, you'd have to do the same on another shell. Don't follow your logic about even thinking of changing, just get stripping down to every last nut and bolt, remove anything surplus to requirements, and put it back together
84mm!!!?? lol, the external of them is 70mm
yes they're the same. Really wouldn't bother with it though, all you're doing is making the light throttle control less accurate.
