OBDII scanners with "Live Data" function- what works?

I can't remember what protocol it says it connects as- I'll have to check. It does seem to check for faults OK and comes up with "No Stored Codes" (or a similar phrase?) when I check the faults. When I select the "Live Data" option something like "No live data stream found" is displayed? The...

Have you checked the wheels studs are tight? It's also possible that something is caught between the hub facing and wheel preventing the wheel from sitting flush.

OBDII scanners with "Live Data" function- what works?

Recently I bought a U581 OBDII scanner for my 182- the main function I was interested in was the "Live Data" capability. (Live Data gives you a lot of sensor and engine data feedback while driving.) From what I can establish the U581 is compatible with ALL the current protcols. I've now tested...

    OBD reader

Whilst not within your price range, I have got a CAN bus compatible U581 which works for reading faults, but the "live data" function will not. :dapprove: (When I say it works for faults, it gives a reading of "no faults logged", I haven't had a legit fault to try it on yet.)

    The RS inlet manifold

You can just see it with a torch and inspection mirror if you stand on your head.... no need to remove the fuel rail cover. :) You have to look carefully as it's hidden by the rail and injectors. My 2005 182 has one.

    Doesn't feel like 182 bhp!!!

A link to the dyno printout for my 182 was on page 2: http://users.on.net/~murcod/RSC/Dyno/Murcod1.jpg The same day there were about 6 Clios done (all 172's except for me) and the outputs ranged from 92kW to 103kW @ the wheels. (Multiply hp by .746 to get kW; or times kW by 1.34 to get hp ;)...

    Doesn't feel like 182 bhp!!!

What was the figure at the wheels? A flywheel figure from a chassis dyno is a "guesstimate" at best, however I notice in the UK it's all you guys talk about? :S Here in Australia it's always quoted as "power at the wheels" if measured by a chassis dyno.

    RCS 172 Cold Start Problems

I cleaned mine with isopropyl alcohol, but metho or anything similar will do the job. Preferably use something that will evapourate and not leave an oily residue (ie. not WD40)

    Removing Charcoal filtering system?

It's part of the emissions and your fuel tank actually vents into that canister when the engine isn't running. When you start the car the fuel vapour is sucked into the inlet manifold and burnt. It prevents excess hydrocarbons being released into the environment..... That a basic explanation...

    Doesn't feel like 182 bhp!!!

Here's a dyno run from my stock 182 (only mod is the acoustic valve)- that's power at the wheels. To me 103kW (138hp) is about right- compared to my "116kW" Pug 306 S16 that only managed 68kW @ the wheels I'm very happy. http://users.on.net/~murcod/RSC/Dyno/Murcod1.jpg Note the flat(ish)...

Oil – You get what you pay for!

So what's the easiest way to tell which oils are the "fake" synthetics (apart from guessing by the price)? It's very hard to find info on what goes into them. I'm guessing Elf Excellium SM 5W40 is a fake synthetic going by the price? Any chance of a more comprehensive list of common fakes?

Redline Shockproof gear oil - anybody use it?

Have you thought about the Shockproof instead? IMHO, after using both types, it's better (and I wish I had got the Shockproof instead....) And they cost about the same. That's comparing the Shockproof Lightweight to their MT90 in a Daihatsu Feroza gearbox ("Sportrack" in the UK.) A lot of...

Redline Shockproof gear oil - anybody use it?

Do you guys get Redline oils in the UK? www.redlineoil.com I've used their Shockproof in a couple of cars with great success (improvements in shift) and was thinking about putting it in my Clio box. I was wondering if anyone had tried the Shockproof range and what viscosity they used-...

    The Angry Wasp!

Better off with the tune and the exhaust done locally IMHO. Given you've got a 182 you'll already have the "RS" inlet manifold which is the best standard type fitted (larger bore) so you won't get as much gain from the AWT manifold as a 172 would. I looked into the manifold but once you do...

172 Rolling Road Results - Help please!

Just a point on the max power at the wheels- using .746 as a conversion factor to get hp to kW you end up with 94.7kW @ the wheels. That's very close to what the Aussie 172's get on Dyno Dynamics dynos over here. So you may have some issues with your engine, but it's not much different to...

Rear strut brace, making noise after install

Could the noise be because you aren't actually bracing the strut towers with these braces but just tying the shock tops together? So, the body can still flex, but the shocks can't move independantly with the body like they used to. So now the shocks are trying to move around more in the body...
