Okay to work under car with an axle stand on each corner?

I've been told that this is not good practice, but if using heavyweight axle stands all over, I can't see how its any worse than relying on a pair of wheels not rolling away.

    H&R vs K-Tec Ultimate Coilovers?

I can't find a bad report about H&R, but K-Tecs Ultimates are half the price from a company that usually sells quality stuff. A good compromise to save £100s for other mods? http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=1049

Implications of DFT press release to HID installers

Well if that was your point, you're not very good at explaining yourself. You said: <you always see them on "done-up" cars, but never run of the mill cars owned by people in their 40's> Neither part of the statement was accurate without further clarification so I was just confirming what you...

Implications of DFT press release to HID installers

HIDs are now being installed more and more as standard in a lot of cars aimed at this agegroup, but true, not in 'run of the mill' ones yet.

Implications of DFT press release to HID installers

Do you have any evidence for this? I'd be interested and surprised if HIDs don't provide improved vision for the driver. All the evidence I've read suggests that improved output and colour temperature results in a clearer, longer view. Their usefullness would also depend on what kind of driving...

    mk1 ph1 alarm

If the siren has its own battery then cutting the wires will probably just set it off for ages until it runs out. If it doesn't have an inbuilt battery then you might as well just cut the wires because it can't work if there's nothing powering it. Then just follow the cables and detach anything...

Implications of DFT press release to HID installers

By saying 'I understand can't be fitted with HIDs to the original units' I simply meant that I was under the impression that they aren't physically compatible. It isn't entirely clear whether insurance would be invalidated just because the DFT make an announcement based on it's 'view'. If you...

Implications of DFT press release to HID installers

http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps <In the Department's view it is not legal to sell or use after market HID lighting kits, for converting conventional Halogen headlamps to HID Xenon. If a customer wants to convert his vehicle to Xenon HID he must purchase completely new...

Kingsize spoiler on a Clio: Fit or s**t?

I quite like it! Putting preferences completely aside, would you sayt that it was a spoiler, or a wing? (and why)

Remove mk1 gearknob without damaging it?

Has a tie grip, but the knob is much bigger than the neatly sewn hole on top.

Is there a trade name? Which section in store?

Remove mk1 gearknob without damaging it?

It must have taken 1 hell of a tug? Is there danger of ruining the whole gear column for the sake of a £10 knob? Although now spent >£40 on new gaitor and surround).
  23. G

Remove mk1 gearknob without damaging it?

No the gaitor is a shite, plastic one. And they are screwed but heavily glued on, aparently.

    MK1 1.2 Mod

Insurance with 172 = £480 tpft with Adrian Fux, 2 yr NCB, 32 y/o Yeah, I don't like Lexus lights on early Clios either. Bit too modern for my liking but each to his own. The originals suit the mk1s perfectly imho, but alas can't use HIDs : ( £15 unbelievable price tho! And £500 with 35k, damn...
