You'll be surprised what you can pick up for that price however I'd opt for a lower mileage 172. Just do the usual checks and make sure the belts have been replaced by a reputable garage/specialist.
I've done mine recently and the old stuff looked ok, not sure on when it was last done though. Also did a change on my friends Ph1 172 and it solved a gearbox whine problem (for now) with some fresh oil.
Recently I've been having issues with most radio stations apart from radio1. I'll select a station such as heart, Mercia etc it'll work great for 10 seconds or so and then start searching for the station again. The signal must be ok as it sounds fine to start with, anyone else have this problem?
Personally I'd go for a 106/Saxo just because parts are cheaper and it's a very easy engine to work on. I agree that the H/G do tend to go however it's an easy fix and can be done with limited knowledge. A common engine swap for the 106 is a JP4 from a Citroen C2, 206 etc which have usually got...
Sportlines have made me love my car a little more :) Exhaust I could take it or leave it however everyone raves about the RSTuner, I need to get involved!
I found it annoying that quotes came out lower if your car is parked on the street rather than a garage/driveway! My main money saving tip as already mentioned is adding your parents onto your insurance.
If it's a good car overall and you paid a good price then try and push for a new exhaust and discs/pads. A full refund seems a bit extreme however I'm sure the dealer will soon comply if you mention it!
Try and get some more pics posted up, the rear does seem rather high. I imagine the top mounts have lowered the front as mentioned which makes the rear look higher than it actually is.
I think the prices seem fairly low, you should shift it all quickly. Personally I'd prefer to sell it hole and lose a small amount, breaking a car is a pain! (unless you have a nice warm garage)
Chop the 172 exhaust shorter, have the pipe expanded. Then chop the flange off the cat and fit them together? I did this on my 106 when I had a pugsport fitted for MOT time.
Sound - With decat fitted it gives a nice rumble on idle which isn't too intrusive. On motorway journeys it can drone a bit but it's still OK. Giving it some beans it sounds nice!
With the CAT fitted it's a bit louder than standard on idle and motorway journeys, great for everyday imo! When you...
