    The truth about transmission oil?

The Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75w-80 is GL4/5 and is renault approved so ideal for the job. According to my records many clios such as the Clio II 2.0 16v are recommended a GL5 75w-80. There are many gearboxes out there designed to run GL5 fluids and there are many good GL5 75w-80, 75w-85 and...

    what oil for 172?

It's a bit thin, but not too bad.

    what oil for 172?

It is thin when it's cold and that is probably when you have seen it, but that means it flows quicker around the engine when cold to give better protection. The 'general consistency' is not thin except when thin, as it needs to be an SAE40 at 100C or it isn't a 0w-40.

    what oil for 172?

I dont see why it being a bit thinner when cold being a problem. When hot 5w-40 and 0w-40 are the same thickness, SAE40. Cheers Guy

    Oil advice and recommendations here

The oil doesn't really affect the output, sometimes you can gain a bhp or two by using a thinner oil, but for a road car, protection is more important I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Out of those...

Oil at this time of year

At this time of year, it’s beneficial to use an oil that has good cold start flow properties as it will get to the parts of the engine that need it far more quickly when you turn the key. The "w" number which means winter is the key here and the lower it is the better cold start performance...

    Top up oil with 10w40?

All oils mix so no problem topping up with 10w-40 semi. 5w-40 synthetic would be a better choice but as you dont know what is in it then you could just be topping up 10w-40 semi anyway. Cheers Guy
