From cat back it can be taken off in one piece. You cant take the backbox off, need to cut the centre section to change that, but you can definitely get it off in a oner from where it joins the cat.

If the tyres were shagged must be cos of tracking being out. Either that or camber. Unless it was rubbing on the arches. Not replacing the shocks wont affect the tyres at all.
