    CLUTCH LIFE

Reckon the 172 clutches will have a limited average lifespan. There is such a wide bite point on these that you tend to slip them quite a lot. Weirdest clutch Ive ever used!

ESP - Makes me feel less safe

ABS has saved my butt in quite a few occasions so could never knock it. Anybody that does is kidding themselves. OK you can probably stop quicker without ABS but most likely at the wrong angle and in the wrong place (field or lamp post!). I reckon I must be gettin too old or Im just a woos...

Cheers for your comments mate. From you .... a compliment!!;) Actually contemplated ditching my heat shields for that sheeting too but would cost a bloody fortune! Ive given up trying to adjust my heatshields since I put the Magnex on. Even had the wife gunning the engine while I was...

    WROTE OFF THE VALVER

Bad news mate. Glad your still in one piece. As long as the B pillar (next to the door handle) is not damaged you should get away with just new panels. Even if they do write it off you should be able to buy it off them, source the bits and repair it. Im amazed that the alloys never got scuffed!

    Custom 172 Air Box

For those that may be contemplating a similar mod you will probably have to ditch the air standard valve to allow space for an air duct down behind the NS headlamp. http://www.fifegallery.co.uk/domains/cliosport/coldair05.jpghttp://www.fifegallery.co.uk/domains/cliosport/coldair05.jpg...

    Custom 172 Air Box

Thats the theory Ben. I bent a thick welding rod into the same profile as the bonnet underside (back to front) and laid that across the engine bay when I did my original cardboard template to get the profile right on the box. With the bonnet closed and the car idling I can feel the air getting...

    COILOVERS FITTED AT LAST !!!!

Looks top quality. Are the fronts a main spring plus slipper spring to make them progressive? From the photos I would say you are on about a 40mm drop? Do the front wheels rub on the wheel liners on full lock? Mine does using avo springs with a similar drop.

Hi Paul, Presume you mean the Unichip? Just been speaking to Gerry at Storm Eng this week. They are setting up a Dastek UK retail premises in Dalgety Bay to open around the 1st July. They are the main UK Distributor. Will cost about £300 + VAT for scottish car club members for fitting and...

    Magnx OR Viper

Magnex is the biz m8. Lovely and fairly quiet when toodling around town but takes on a completely new character when you hit the gas! Other option for your remap/fuelling would be a Unichip. A bit more expensive than a Superchip but set up on a dyno for your car. Can also be remapped later on if...

    Custom 172 Air Box

Well, I said I would do it a while back when I discussed it online with BenR and have now Ive lived up to my words. Finished the install last night. Did some temp tests today when the ambient was about 24 degs (which is pretty hot for Scotland!). Put the temp sensor next to the door mirror...

Air filter / Air box mods 172

Reckon it will let more air in but more than likely hot air if there is no cold air feed. So in weather like today ~24 deg you will probably loose power. I just finished my custom air box yesterday. I ditched the the standard and made up a steel home brew with 75mm pipe out to lower grill...

    REAR BADGES

Like JJ172, Ive removed the RENAULT SPORT badges from my 2002 172. They were self-adhesive. The Clio badge on the right was annoyingly pinned. (The Clio badge on my 2003 1.6 is also pinned). Anyway, on the 172 Ive removed the Clio badge and sealed up the holes from inside and touched them up...

    assisted cold air feed

Hi Paul, Funny you should mention the idea. I was thinking along the very same lines myself. Im in the throws of constructing a cold air box for my 172 to house a K&N 57i. Originally I was planning to have two 50mm air pipes going into the box, one that was "force" fed from the front grill and...
